  • It really is time to move on.

I'm sure this won't be popular with many, but this team is just a mess and it's mostly due to major talent issues created by Elway. This just can't be allowed to continue. He had a good run, but now that Manning is gone it's really rather obvious that he's just not a very good GM. Time to move on. Otherwise I fear we are on our way to being a perennial loser for years to come.

Just like we have moved away from other people who have won us Super Bowls and watched as "trusted" posters talk about how over rated they were I am sure Elway will get that treatment too.

    Not this year tho.
Get ourself up, learn what we can and keep moving forward.

Im not ready to throw the towel in yet. We beat ourselves in so many aspects of this game.

So many penalties (we still haven't had a coach who has cleaned up our fundamentals) but it is early and I am hoping fangio can turn it around.

Sutton looks like a great pick. Hamilton does too even though he killed us with his drop tonight. He led the NFL in catches from week 12 on last season.

      Risner looked ok.

Fant was rough, but TE is the longest developing position in the NFL.

Everytime I think its horrible here I look at Miami or Buffalo and see teams that I don't want to be anything like and see that we don't have it that bad.

I do not like Elways obsession with getting re-tread QBs, but at least hes still working at something to try and fix a glaring weakness.

This game has really highlighted a lot of things we did wrong this off-season.

        - Should have went LB instead of getting Fant and Lock. We need a thumper and a cover LB badly.

        - We should have moved on from Wolfe and save $10+m. That dude is washed up now.

        - we need to stop getting Iffy Oline players in FA. Imagine having Brown instead of James. I'd spend more money for that.

Elway was a great player. He's had his moments as a GM, but it's become pretty clear he doesn't have the ability to create sustained success. He's just not good enough at drafting unfortunately.

It's a tough loss but with new coaches you can't get the torches and pitchforks... yet

They deserve a few games to settle in. The clock is ticking.

Yet? This a conclusion I've come to after three plus seasons post-Manning. The guy can't draft at the level needed to build a Super Bowl roster. It's really obvious. Most of his success as a GM has come from free agency, and that's not sustainable as we are currently seeing.

Not just last offseason. It was a culmination of years of years of bad decisions.

Think I'll wait to see how the new system and new coaches develop with time. We shall see. Way to early to tell. Wish we had come out a little better prepared, but coaches make mistakes and have to learn too. Lets see what happens next and see if they do and the team follows them. That is what frustrated me the most about Vance and his coaches, they would keep doing the same things over and over again without learning. Then they would complain about the players. I hope it is much different this year.

This is a fair assessment. I also never trust a week one result. The Raiders had a lot to rally around this week with the AB situation. Let's see how the Broncos do next week before making any judgements.

The major issue is this "win now" infatuation and unwillingness to accept a rebuild. We've been trying to slap on bandaids for 4 years now, at some point Elway has to be realistic about the team if he truly wants it to return to prominence.

That's true. But even if he decided to take on that mentality, can he draft well enough to get it done? Doesn't seem like it.

This I completely agree with. At some point we have to take our lumps.

Who's going to fire him? You?

It is what is for the time being until ownership settles out. There were some definite bright spots tonight from a team that really hasn't played together. Reevaluate when we see what we bring against the bears in the home opener.
