Although, given some time, I think Tony Gonzales will rank up pretty high.

Again, though, as we talked about in the WR post, TEs weren't really looked at too much, or considered much of a threat before now. They were pretty much just blockers, and could have an occasional out or corner route.

Though I do have to include Winslow up there, along with Sharpe. Sharpe is beginning to show some signs of age, but he is still one of the greatest, at least of this time period. Novacek also deserves a spot. But you still didn't include Ozzie Newsome! Or was he before 1988? I can't remember...
Thanks for the memories, John. We will always remember you.

You look great in Canton! Perhaps I'll get to see you some day...

Sharpe 1 of the greatest? How about the greatest, since he has more yards, receptions, TD and wins than any other TE to ever play, and his 3 SB rings arent to shabby either.

As far as him showing his age, damn were spoiled with watching shannon over the years, 61 recepts with 780yds and 8 TD is a hell of a season for any tight end, reguardless of age.

Yeah Ozzie was still playing in 88. He played untill 1990.

Keith Jackson had a hell of a lot of offensive numbers, as did Ben Coates in his prime.

I would put either one of those over Mark Bavaro.

                      Shannons got the numbers.....

..and Gonzalez may turn out to be the overall best one, but I'd rank Winslow as the most important for this reason: he altered the landscape. Until he showed up no one had ever showed the combination of speed, size, and power that he had. It was crucial in helping develop the position into what has caused guys like these others to thrive.

Shannon Sharpe has got to be number 1. Jay is up there pretty high to though.

and what about Frank Wycheck, only one of 4 TE's to have more than 500 receptions?

He's the first one that came to mind that was not on that list. He has to be on there.
