  • history tells us this game is a home win!!!!!!!!!!

looking back through history,we're more than formidable at home...

the Chargers have had a very difficult time trying to win in Denver since the days of Dan Fouts and company.

However, I don't think it's just the Chargers that have problems winning in Denver. Even without Elway,we're still a force at home. we usually manage to win at least 6 out of 8 at home.

Look at Denver's home record the past 20 years or so, beginning with Elway:

    With Elway:
    =============
    1983: 6-2 regular (Elway's rookie season)
    1984: 7-1 regular, 0-1 postseason
    1985: 6-2 regular
    1986: 7-1 regular, 1-0 postseason
    1987: 7-1 regular, 2-0 postseason
    1988: 6-2 regular
    1989: 6-2 regular, 2-0 postseason
    1990: 4-4 regular
    1991: 7-1 regular, 1-0 postseason
    1992: 7-1 regular
    1993: 5-3 regular
    1994: 4-4 regular
    1995: 6-2 regular
    1996: 8-0 regular, 0-1 postseason
    1997: 8-0 regular, 1-0 postseason
    1998: 8-0 regular, 2-0 postseason

    Post-Elway:
    ==========
    1999: 3-5 regular
    2000: 6-2 regular
    2001: 6-2 regular
    2002: 5-3 regular
    2003: 6-2 regular
    2004: 6-2 regular

we've only had 2 bad seasons in the last 22.

    Elway Era Total: 102-26 regular, 9-2 postseason = 111 - 28 combined (79.86% home win rate)

    Post-Elway Total: 32-16 (66.66% home win rate)

    22 year total: 143 - 44 (76.47% home win rate)

You'd think that one of the AFC West teams would figure out how to win in Denver somewhat regularly over a two decade span. The Raiders have had the most success though, winning in Denver 9 out of the last 22 times. Kansas City has won only 4 out of the last 22 times. San Diego and Seattle (when it was part of the AFC West), have each won only 3 out of the past 22 times.

so forget the miami game the heat etc...

    we're back at home ........

Ya, I was just thinking that. THe same thing happens during a game where Jake has just completed like 10 in a row and then its off to INTville.

On second thought, Miami wasn't jinxed last week with all of the pregame talk about our record there so maybe we are clear.

Nothing like having a quarterback that's having a great game...

...until you hear the announcer (it's normally Theismann, too)

Announcer:"He hasn't thrown an interception in 105 pass attempts, Paul. He's really been getting into a groove and showing that he's in the elite of the NFL quarterbacks, and I think----OH NO IT'S PICKED OFF!!!! WHAT WAS HE THINKING! What a crappy throw, I can't believe that. He just doesn't have what it takes to be an NFL quarterback."

Wish they'd do that after EVERY opponent's completion, then.....
