  • 2006 Free Agents - The List

Thought this might be interesting. This does not include those players that will have their contracts voided such as Matt Lepsis or Courtney Brown. So, this is just a "rough" list of players that are available.

We need to keep Sam Brandon, Stephen Alexander, and Keith Burns around.

I wouldn't mind Reggie Wayne and one of the top safeties (maybe Dexter Jackson, he might be a little cheaper)

Oh, and by the way, CP for all the hard work...keep it up

I would love to have both, but i don't think we will b/c Abraham will be toooooooo expensive and i have a feeling we're gonna get T.O. don't get upset just b/c of how i feel.

Also, I posted this a couple of days ago....

                Excellent Post...

If we could only afford two of the following, we would have an even better team next year.

                Adam Archuleta STL S

                John Abraham NYJ DE

                Steve Hutchinson SEA OG

                David Givens NE WR

                Reggie Wayne IND WR

I like his veteran leadership and can do good in some games, but i don't think we should go after Joe Jurevicius...he'll be past his prime next year.

Without posting the top name from each list, as some seem to be doing here, let's look at some of the middle names, in particular, two that caught my eye:

I'd love to see Stephen Neal, OG of New England hit the market. The former wrestling stud knows all about hand placement, leverage and quickness out of his stance. He was born to play in a zone blocking system. With Nalen possibly retiring and Hamilton sliding over, Neal is good enough to slide into the lineup at left guard and keep this think firing on all fours. I would be suprised if New England lets him go, since he was an interesting find and one they are proud of, but he'd definitely fit the system.

The light blub may be slowly coming on for Kalimba Edwards, DE of Detroit. He'd currently lead this team in sacks, and has the speed and quickness to collapse the pocket. Since we appear to surrender weakside runs anyways, Edwards could play every down in Denver, and could be a pass rushing supplement to our next draft class. If we signed Edwards, I'd back off on the trade up for Williams/Kiwi because I feel Edwards may be a late bloomer that is just starting to catch on. Very young, very talented, and the going rate for first round flops is rather low. I also recommend this signing. We take a chance on Clevelanders, how about a Lion to add bite to the pass rush? My guess he'd be less or around half of what Abraham will make on his next contract, and very well could put up slightly less, but comprable numbers for the money.

They aren't Hutchison or Abraham, but they may work just as well for less money.

We need to see some good receivers get the ax too...

The thing that really stood out to me was all the freakin quality DEs that were going to be available. I mean, holy jeebus! It's going to be a buyer's market, and this is the one position we will likely need to be buying.

Courtney Brown and Ebenezor Ekuban will free up 12 million between them. If we cut Pryce, that's another 10.5 million off the books. We are 27.5 million over the cap, so cutting those guys there will help trim that number by a lot, even though some signing bonuses will likely still apply in Brown and Pryce's cases.

Still, we've got to get enough under the cap to be able to make quality offers to Warren and Lepsis, who unfortunately, are both the premier players at their positions. We could be outbid on Lepsis by the Texans or any number of teams, and the same goes with Warren. If a team needs a DT, he's going to be in demand, and I still believe he wants to be in a defense that lets him pass rush the majority of the time and not clog.

Then we have a decision on Nalen still who has been having his best season ever this year. What do we do there. We've got depth, but do we want to let a lifelong Bronco superstar walk to another team?

The good news is that regardless, with two 1st rounders, we should be able to get two talented starters wherever we need them for relatively cheap. I mean, look at the Chargers this year, they plugged two big holes with Castillo and Merriman, and both have been playing great.

I definitely like Reggie Wayne, Kevin Curtis, and Patrick Crayton on that list.

Might be the year to pick up a FA WR or two...that way we don't have to wait 3 years for a rookie who may or may not develop.

I heard that Shanny thinks that Nalen is the offensive MVP for the Broncos this year, and if Nalen wants to return he will. Shanny will pay him. The guy is playing great. He is like the coming of the next Bruce Mathews, plays great year after year.

Do you think we will cut EE, Brown and Pryce and try to resign for smaller contracts?
