He didn't break it every time, he just broke it when the O-Line opened up a 10ft hole for him, a lil above average from their 5 ft holes..

^ still smokin'...sure Portis was a game breaker, but we don't need a gamebreaker breaking down in the playoffs. If he was breaking 60 yd runs all the time, why couldn't he run into the endzone vs the colts in the playoffs? Give me a plodding back that will draw out 4.3 yds per carry average, will sustain drives, therefore limiting the oppositions time of possesion. I'll take a back that rams it down the d lines, line backers, and safeties throat, while lelie, smith, and ???Woods??? run wild against the secondary. I'll take a back that keeps his mouth shut, gets in the endzone and salutes his fans, plays with class, and never whines in the media about his problems. Oh where, Oh where are you Terrell Davis the second.

You miss him, he does not miss you. Bottom line. He wanted more money, who cares about the fans.

Man how can you bad mouth Portis after all he did for Denver. You apparently are the one "still smokin". Why would you prefer a back that will give you less than what Portis gave you??? You sound very much like a disgruntled fan bitter about the Portis deal so you're in denial. I understand...it is easier to deal with such great disappointment by remaining loyal to your team and remaining optimistic even though deep down you know this deal stinks. To cope with it you have to keep telling yourself you don't need Portis and Bailey is the greatest when in reality you know nothing about Bailey and your potential career rushing leader has left town. Trading Portis at this point in his career would be like trading Elway after his second year---imagine that. Boy how dumb that would have been. Who needs a back that can break a 60 yard run??? EVERYBODY!!!!! Unfortunately, only a select few teams have the luxury of having a player with that kind of talent. Denver USE to be one. Here are a few bone head remarks just for laughs that makes you wonder what was he thinking????

"Sure Portis was a game breaker but we don't need a game breaker breaking down in the playoffs. Why couldn't he break a 60 yard run in the playoffs?" (Hmmm, would the 60 yard runs during the season have anything to do with you making the playoffs? Also, how many other players on the team had 60+ yard plays in the preseason, regular season, or post season?)

"Give me a plodding back that will draw out 4.3 yards per carry average." (Hmmm, didn't Portis have the best yards per carry average in the league at 5.5 per carry? Also, I believe he was the only back in the top 20 that averaged 5 yards or better.)

"We don't need him. All he does is score touchdowns." -Buddy Ryan's remarks about trading Cris Carter. (Hmmm, really is that all he did was score TD's? I thought scoring TD's was the main objective of the offense, of course I could be wrong. He is a professional football coach and I'm just a fan.)

Getting rid of Portis WAS a good move. For one thing, he was threatening to not play, two, the plan is that Griffin can step up and run for 1100+ yards, just like all of the other backs we have had in the past 5 years
Ed McCaffery endured a bone-shattering hit that effectively ended his career...and he held on to the ball.
