  • Speaking of Bobby Humphrey

This guy back in 89-90 was an awesome back.

I seriously thought he could have matched Barry Sanders eventually.

For those that don't know..and I'm talking about the kids, BH was the original back that started it all!

    Bobby Humphrey

    | 1989 den | 16 | 294 1151 3.9 7
    | 1990 den | 15 | 288 1202 4.2 7

    Barry Sanders:

Yes Bobby Humphrey was a good back for the Broncos. He had the knee injury that ultimately ended his career. I think he was one of the first Bronco RB's to have rushed for 1,000 yards in a season in a long time.

I wouldn't have compared him to Barry Sanders AO, but I would have compared him to Eric ****erson. <<Silly CoC won't allow me to put the man's name up...... os how about this. D.....i.....c....k.....e....r.....s....o...n.

Yea, you're right...Barry was awesome BUT I thought BH could have been the back that could have won a few rushing titles if he wanted to.

Oooops sorry AO, you wasn't comparing styles but you were projecting rushing numbers (stats). Anyways, I do agree he was an awesome back that could have put up some awesome numbers.

Bobby Humphrey's career wasn't ended by a knee injury. He held out after his second season and we traded him to Miami, where Dennis Smith got back at thim by breaking a few of his ribs when The Broncos played the Dolphins. He later got involved in a cocaine deal, which untimately was responsible for his departure. .................But before Humphrey, Floyd Little, Otis Armstrong and Sammy Winder all had 1000 yard seasons. He may have had a knee injury, I can't remember, but he had off the feild problems.

All that plus he got shot in the leg or knee. Atleast I thought he did.

HD.......yes there were 1000 yard rushers before Bobby, but like I said it had been a long time. Between when Sammy did it and Bobby there was about 6 or 7 year span.

Sammy Winder had to be the most unexplosive back ever.

He was fun to pull for though. I know who reminds me of his stature and running style......Ron Dayne. Don't know what that mean though.

I know, I was just naming the guys before him. Winder had his 1000 yard season in 1984 and Humphrey had his first in 1989.

Winder was a tough back...............not explosive like you mentioned. I actually named my son after him. ................Believe it or not, he's third on the Broncos all-time rushing list.

Well, Bobby Humphrey wasn't Eric D ickerson, (see? you only have to put a space in to fool the stupid CoC ) but he was a decent back in Denver's system.

Pat Bowlen was probably right in that interview when he said that Humphrey would probably have had a very successful career if he'd stayed in Denver (and stayed away from cocaine dealers -- that goes without saying).

I didn't know he was shot though. I just thought he injured his knee and was washed up. Kind of like Olandis Gary.

I agree. He was good but he seemed sluggish at times.
He did have a knack for slipping through defenders.

Who didn't love when he scored and did his infamous 'mud dance' in the endzone!
