Ok, if that is what you want to believe, then so be it. I heard all the same things about Dayne from his fans.

Shanahan made us believe he would be the starter by giving him a signing bonus and signing him to a three year contract.

Shanahan made us believe he would be the starter by letting Mike Anderson go.

Blah, Blah. Shanahan is not a wet nurse. His job is not to be concerned about what you feel or believe.

are you saying the offense was dumbed down because lelie was not a reliable target in '04? are you blaming ash for plummer's ints?

if walker is healthy, it is better. if he's not, it is prob worse.

People who are talking trash about Devoe werent paying much attention last year huh? He had multiple important plays last year with a long TD in that Philly game, and even more important was his special teams play. Multiple tackles, forced fumbles, and recoveries... thats a big deal... and he was only given limited chances!!! He seems like a younger version of Rod SMith to me, he keeps his mouth shut and works hard. He has alot more vaule than a guy like Watts who has done nothing but underachieve and one position.

People are talking harsh about my Adopt a Bronco
I was a little upset about cutting Watts as well, but I look at it this way.
If he wasn't going to be the #3 receiver, (which obviously he isn't) then he wasn't going to play at all. I'd much rather have Devoe over Watt's at the #5 position. Devoe did well on ST last year, he caused 1 fumble, recoverd 2 fumbles and snuck in a long TD against the Eagles.

I agree that we should sign someone else like Warrick to return kicks. Which is the only thing that saved Adams bacon. But you all have to look at reality when it come to Watts, he wasn't #3 so he would have been inactive for every game. Might as well get a ST player in place of him there.

Marshall will be #3, I saw him at TC and the man is a Beast.

Actually, he has two, since one of the four draft picks he used was for Javon Walker. So, he has Javon Walker, Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler on the roster as a result of using half of his draft picks on receivers.

To respond to your other comments. Have I been impressed with the receivers taht Shanny has drafted? Not really, but then again, I haven't been impressed with many of his 1st round, or even day one selections. He has had a lot of number 1 draft picks that went bust.

However, did you ever stop to wonder why?

I have, and while I don't know if this is the reason, I think it might be. Shanahan's philosiphy is based largely around speed and athleticism. So, there are times he skips the more accomplished, NFL ready player in the draft, for the player with the best measurables.

If you ever notice, the guys that analyze the drafts constantly use the phrase, "that was a bit of a reach drafting ????? in the x round". That is because he often doesn't pick the player that is the best NFL-ready player on all the draft expert's draft boards, but instead goes for certain types of players, which are usually smaller and faster (at many of the positions).

I believe it is the fact he looks for certain types of players, which has resulted in many bad drafts. I generally don't get too excited about Denver drafts, because I figure I won't like the results.

HOWEVER, that is a whole different subject than the title of this thread. Watts wasn't cutting it, so he got cut. Shanahan has said repeatedly that he will not keep a player, just so he doesn't look bad cutting a first round draft pick, someone he gave a big signing bonus to, etc.

You look around the league.....the best teams have a 3rd receiver. Chris Henry, Stokely, Reggie Williams, Cedrick Wilson or Nate Washington in Pitt, Eric Parker, Patrick Crayton, Bobby Engram, etc.

We have, as silk said, a bunch of unproven special teamers and a rookie.
Well, as I said last night, or early this morning, or whenever it was, let's talk about this again at the bye.

I feel pretty confident that at that time, everyone is going to be singing a different toon. While it might take a few games to solidify (especially with Marshall's injury), I believe that by the bye we will be talking about how this is the best group of Broncos receivers (Overall, top three WR + TEs) in the last 20 years.

The point, everyone, was that Watts could only have made the team as a 4th/5th receiver -- whom have to play ST.

    Watts doesn't play ST.

Watts is a 1st/2nd/3rd receiver who is supposed to be on the field; this team already has those in bunches, so that makes him kinda useless for this team and a casualty of the numbers game.

Adams was so mediocre when he was given his shot as a #3 last year. I am fine with him being on the team contributing in a ST role, but I'll shoot myself if I see Denver line him up in a receiver package that contains less than 4 other WR on the field.

If he was kept over Watts purely because of ST contributions, then that is fine. But no one can say that Adams is a better WR than Watts.

It's mainly because Watts' potential is very, very high; ultimately, though I kinda saw this coming since Watts' wasn't getting much playing time the last two games (I want to know why, too). Watts has a great ability to get open on practicially every play, but he's having trouble hauling in the catches.

4th/5th receivers need to be able to play ST; since that's where Watts is at and he can't play ST, he got caught up in the numbers. The guy is a #3 receiver, but we already have two of them. By no means is he a lost talent, I'm sure someone else will pick him up very fast, and from there who knows. I wish him the best.

I'm not really partial to Watts or Adams. Charlie Adams made a few really good plays last year, but neither of them will be starters for Denver any time soon...

We were extremely lucky for him to fall to us. Give em a chance! They might live up to the potential.
Oh no I love watchin kirkus and am extremely excited about marshall, I'm just venting about devoe and adams. I hope kirkus doesn't end up like Triandos Luke. He had some huge gains in pre-season just to fizzle out. With Rod doin his thing, Walker stretching the field and 2 good posession receivers in kirkus and marshall we should have a pretty potent offense. Not to mention the TEs. Our running game could really open up with that kind of air attack. We have a year to gel so Cutler has some stability to work with next season.

Kircus and Marshall have the chance to be every bit as good as all of those guys on the list. The only superior talent on this list is Henry, and he will probably thug his way out of the league in the next couple of years.
