  • Pts compared to other years

Have not checked it. At work on mobile maybe someone else can check please.

Was reported by Benjamin Allbright if our defense allows 35 pts or less this week than we give up less pts in 16 games than the SB 2015 defense which I consider one of the best defenses I have seen. That is mind blowing.

Just as mind blowing is this team got the Qb they asked for in TB who Shurmur has experience with...have players who have experience in the offense...have coaches who should know these players....yet if our offense scores 25 pts or less we score less points than 2020.

As good as the defense is this may have been the worst coaching job on offense I have ever seen on the Broncos.

When you want to feel negative about the Broncos think of this. Detroit Lions have 1 playoff win in the Super Bowl era in 1992 (1991 season). They are 0-3 in the playoffs since 2000.

He's correct. The 2015 team allowed 296 points, 21 of which came directly from opponents' defensive TDs.

So far this season, the current 2021 team has allowed 260 points, 14 of which have come directly from opponents' defensive TDs.

The biggest difference between the two comes on 3rd down. They can't get teams off the field when it matters, as evidenced by being ranked 26th in 3rd down % (2015's team was ranked 7th in comparison). Against the run is another big difference, as the 2015 team was ranked 3rd in the league, whereas this year's team is ranked 13th. The 2015 team was also better at scoring points with 5 defensive TDs. This year's team has only scored 1 defensive TD.

Overall, the 2015 team won the close games. In constrast, this year's team hasn't. If they had won the close games against the Browns, Bengals and Raiders, we'd likely be discussing the odds of getting the #1 seed at this point.

      Other stuff.

Opponent RZ touchdown percentage is about 9 percent lower this year than in '15. Offense's average time of possession is over 30 seconds higher this year than in '15. Opponent's average time of possession is also higher this year, which is related to the defense's 3rd down % being higher this year. Opposing offense staying on the field.

Biggest stat to me though is the '21 defense is 17th in turnovers. They were 8th in '15. When you look at how bad our offense was at protecting the football in 2015, you realize how good that defense was. When the offense actually moved the ball with any efficiency without turning it over, that defense dominated. They were put in precarious situations most of the year and were still elite. This year's offense is very good at taking care of the football, and its time of possession reflects that.

But philosophically speaking... More aggressive in '15, and more conservative defense in '21. Does that make sense? We had incredible pass rush and secondary personnel in '15, and the right defensive philosophy for the players.

2015 defense had that champion mentality of "Bring any team, any time, and we'll stop you." I like this defense but their confidence isn't (shouldn't be) anywhere close to '15. Plus, the defense found a whole new gear at the end of the season and through the playoffs. I think Ware had a lot to do with that hot streak. With Wade's scheme, it seemed the players rallied around Ware, Talib, Ward, CHJ, and Jackson.

          Thank you.

I think it is a big difference between Vics bend but do not break concept and the super aggressive 2015 defense.

The 2015 defense made plays. Made life difficult for opposing offenses from the get go. Went after them on nearly every down. Players use to say they could feel Wade's aggressive emotions in his play calls.

This years defense has been good but I feel it is barely holding on. More playing a game to not lose as opposed to playing a game to win.

I also wonder if opposing offenses play less aggressive against Vics defense because they know 15-20 pts will win it for them and as long as they do not give our defense a Big Play our offense will not do what they need to do
