  • george paton teams won 3 playoff games in a quarter century

prior to his hiring with the broncos , one of those wins was the minneapolis miracle which was one of the most braindead plays by a defensive back you'll ever see.

I think he's drafted quite a few pro bowlers though? He seems to know what he's doing? He gets two more years. It usually takes one to three years to evaluate players talent, coaches, management, teams, Etc.

Paton was not the final decision maker for the Vikings or anyone else.

I will not hold those results against him.

Despite not liking his first round pick, I think he did a good job with the draft.

What I hold against him, is trading for Bridgewater. If he didn’t believe in Drew, he should have drafted Fields or Jones.

Other than that, I don’t think there’s much to hold against him at this point.

I agree with your first statement. The thread title isnt accurate as paton wasnt the gm of the vikings.

the rest i dont agree with. Shurmur was supposedly brought in to develop lock at least thats what we were told. Shurmur and fangio didnt want to do that. Why else would teddy be brought in and have the 50/50 preseason battle when we know that wasnt the case.

i think paton gave them what they wanted in teddy and drafted to make the d better since they didnt want to develop a qb.

I cant prove that but it seems logical to me. We will see what happens now...

I would tend to agree with you. Honestly, this last year looked like Paton came in and asked Fangio what he thought he needed to right the ship. To save his job. I think Fangio (and Shurmur) were happy to get a game manager QB. Fangio thought that he could call a D well enough to win games that way, and thought Shurmur could call an O well enough to win games that way. If Shurmur wasn't a crap OC it might have worked. But it didn't and now they're both gone. That's my impression.

Well let's hope he does better with his first time in this position. At least better than all the first time head coaches Elway/ Ellis hired.

I'm sure that Paton wasn't actually suiting up and playing, so he isn't responsible for ONLY winning 3 playoff games in 25 years........

George Paton has never had a team before the Broncos. The thread title is purposefully misleading.

fair enough but it wasn't my intention to mislead , as per post #9 i was only musing on his record in pro football , what was it 10 years 97 through 2006 and he's still searching for a formula , there isn't anything particularly striking about it is all i'm saying .

He didnt lead a team as a gm during that time.
                          so what are you saying?

The Denver Broncos did not win a SB til they did....and then they won two, back to back, and then they won three.....

ok should he be given a longer shake than vance joseph or fangio if the broncos fail to make .500 over any of the next three seasons ?
