  • What would make you happy with the 23 season?

by What would make you happiest about Sean Payton and the 23 season? The obvious answer would be a SB and of course a playoff birth is realistic with NFL storylines of worst to first, but those are too easy…. Of these things I feel like we have been tortured by each at some point since the 2000’s.

I’ll give a little explanation behind each category.

8 Wins and never losing by more than one possession makes for entreating football EVERY Sunday. Sometimes it is a indication that your teams not as good as your record, but with us I think it would mean the teams trending in the right direction and could put the NFL on notice in 24. Similar to 22, but with more Ws.

An offense that averages 24 a game, but the defense regresses
The offense moves to being in the top 3rd in the league. We don’t have a late Mike Shanahan defense, but it’s not 22 competent either. It’s not the greatest show on turf offensively either, but we finally see a competent offense since Peyton 2nd to last year.

An Orange Crush Defense, but 22 offense
No Fly zone good. Our deep OLB core develops to be one of the best in the NFL, Damari Mathis Ascends, Pat plays better than Revis and Justin Simmons undoubtedly becomes the best FS in the NFL, but the offense is as good as it was with Hackett.

    Player Development
In Spite of all being day 2/3 picks all of our rookies play a role and are competent and avoid rookie mistakes, Rus plays better in 23 with a 25-7 3500 stat line, the roster shows noticeable improvement as the season goes along, players don’t make the same mistakes over and over like Garett Bolles holding or Jeudy drops… all the players make intuitive reactionary plays.

    Great Gameday decisions
The coaches coaxh great situational football, we go for it on 4th down and get it a majority of the time. We knows when to take 3 and when to go for the touchdown, we adjust the scheme in game when the opponent is doing something that is giving us trouble, we never have clock management issues, we know when to play certain players and when to bench others.

    Well executed scheme and gameplan
We run concepts that build off one another and we have schematic plans for teams tendencies, we put players in the best positions to be successful based on their special skills and abilities we actually have a niche offensively/defensively and are known for executing something at a really high level like Shanahan’s zone scheme or Wades blitzing/man coverage

Honestly I think the one thing I would want most out of the 23 season is well-executed scheme and gameplan… I miss the days where Shanny would have the perfect script for the first couple of opening drives and it looked like he knew exactly what the defense was running, I miss when Peyton knew how to attack a defense…Hell even McDaniels to a point worked miracles and game planned Brandon Marshall open for 21 catches in a game… Since Peyton left it’s like we run individual plays and nothing builds off anything else.

And on defense I want to see us focus on taking the opposing teams best player out of the game. I don’t want to see Devante Adam’s being a determine factor in wether we win or lose, I don’t want to lose to the Jets when we all knew ALL they could do was run the ball with Zach Wilson being at quarterback, We should’ve been able to capitalize more on Seattle having two rookie tackles with veteran pass rushers, Deontee Foreman and DJ Moore SHOULDNT be why the Panthers beat us…etc

    -Bronco in UT

While I both agree and disagree with many posts in this thread I have to lean towards champ on this one. Jay really needs to learn how to manage the game better, and also to learn that you don't have to go for the big play EVERY time on every drive. There is something to be said to check the ball down and live to fight another day. -Great Post Cut the Excuses out please. sigh...

With the most horrendous "coaching" on the offensive side of the ball I've seen in the past fifty-eight years, Denver won five games and lost another five games by a combined score of eleven points. Russell Wilson's 2022 season is an outlier in his career. Denver has upgraded the O-Line and may still sign several UFAs post-draft. Under adverse circumstances, they had a good draft. The Broncos now have an actual head coach and a good coaching staff.

My apologies to the OP, but the choices are too specific, kind of like guys who predict player performance in a game. Ten wins as a floor is what would make me happy in 2023.

            Playoffs

Do not really care how the offense and defense balance out. The team needs to be good enough to make the playoffs period.

All 6 of the poll choices look as if they are solely based upon past year's performances
with many based specifically on last year's performances rather than this year's possibilities.
I cannot vote in a poll that begins with that negativity built in.
So instead, allow me to paraphrase Shanny and Elway when I say
that we play for the Super Bowl every year and to win every game.
Things that make me the happiest are:
                1. beating the Raiders is an outright expectation. (So let's do that twice a year)
                2. winning our home games and seeing the fans rocking the house is a tradition. (So let's win all of our home games for auld lang syne)
                3. beating the Chiefs and Chargers in their house also makes me smile. (So let's take the smug look away from SoFi and Arrowhead fans)
                4. our offense scoring at least 1 TD per quarter makes me giddy. (So let's giddy up and score early and often)
                5. our defense creating turnovers gives me goosebumps. (So let's bump'em or goose'em or whatever it takes to take the ball)
                6. I like a stingy defense that denies points to the opponents. (So let's limit other teams to 1 FG per quarter)
                7. I love seeing us win the field position battle. (So let's get our special teams to work as a team and see something truly special)

If all of these things happen, then the coaches will have:
                developed players' skills and
                designed schemes and game plans
that reflect the best attributes of our players and
made game-day decisions that promoted the highest potential for success
and eliminated the greatest risks for injuries and other failures.

                Regardless of the outcome ...
I remain a Broncos fan and will believe in my team's capabilities to accomplish these things.

                GO BRONCOS

Few qbs actually earn the QB pay imo.

Goff and Tannehill have higher cap hits but I think it is reasonable with a good team plan and good execution Wilson can have a better year.

Probably more argumentative but even have a better year than Jackson and Prescott who have higher cap hits in 2023.

When looking at the top 6 cap hits for qbs in 2023 I think only Mahomes earns it. Borrows and Allen should be right behind him. Allen at 11 in terms of cap hits.

Interesting about maybe the best QB to ever play Brady in terms of he was not in the top ten of cap hits many years.
Get ourself up, learn what we can and keep moving forward.

The NFL needs to do something about this. Just like they fixed the crazy 1st round QB cap hits in the past...fortunately, they fixed that.

I mean really....does anyone really need to earn 50 mil/year....crazy

The only way to stop it from hurting a team’s salary cap is to eliminate the salary cap.
