  • Broncos have signed K Elliott Fry ... Welcome to the Broncos

A young (28) kicker that can enjoy his first season as a starter kicking at mile-high altitude for home games
and probably enjoy mild weather for his away games this year. Good luck Elliott.

I read his bio and came away less than impressed. He's played for what, over 10 pro teams? Something's not right here so I'll place my trust in the coaching staff and keep my little fat fingers crossed.

I am thinking he is just an inexpensive camp leg until they find a better option this summer.

But who knows, maybe after several years and teams he has found his place in the league.

I find it odd to rely on such an unknown player in such a critical role. But have to defer to the STs coaches that they see something in this young man other than a cost savings. Even though the contract details have not been released, I can’t imagine he is making more then the league minimum or even less on a camp deal. Easily cut when they find a professional kicker.

I am not impressed much with this signing.
Hopefully he can do the job.
From what I saw, the XFL kickers weren't very good, but the USFL kickers seem to be a little better.

Hopefully, we have an explosive offense, scoring lots of points, whereas the extra points and field goals are just trivial , or icing on the cake .

There are thirteen NFL teams with more than one Kicker on their 90 man TC roster, and Denver will play two of them in preseason and will practice against one of those. Detroit has three kickers on their roster right now while the others have two, so fourteen of those Kickers will be cut at some point.

Ten veteran free agent Kickers are available.

There are over fifty undrafted college Kickers out there who haven't been signed.

I don't think Elliott Fry should get too comfortable and probably shouldn't completely unpack yet. According to Spotrac, he was signed for $.75 million. Releasing McManus added about $3 million to the cap. There are seven other players whose release would add at least $1 million to the cap, some more.

SP has said that once a player is in camp, how he got there is irrelevant; roster and PS spots must be earned and will go to those who perform best.

Payton and Paton could easily go through several Kickers during the coming season. It isn't as if a Kicker has a large playbook to absorb. Denver might even carry a K on the PS; psychology.

P.S. As you mentioned, the USFL season will be ending at the end of the month which will provide additional candidates at the K position.

Well so far the kicker move has cost us one game. Only preseason but one. Too many missed FGs.

Anyone want to start guessing how many regular season games this will cost us?

Good chance neither Fry nor Maher will be the K for week 1.

Well it is only one game but I think they been on the team one game too many.

Guess we still allowing the other 10 players to work on their craft.

Maher can kick, but those misses, man I don't know anyway they can keep this kid. Fry killed that 55 yarder . He could kick from 60+ , I think we have to go with him.

Fry probably isn't a lock for the roster. He was 50% on FGAs.

Twelve teams besides Denver had two kickers on TC roster and one had three. There are undrafted college kickers and some unsigned veteran free agents.

There will be kickers available after final cuts. Denver's kicker may not be on the roster yet.

I’m hoping Fry’s first kick was just some first kick of the season nerves getting to him. He drilled the 55 yarder with room to spare and the report on him is that he’s accurate but doesn’t have a big leg. So if he’s making 55 yarders away from the altitude and is actually an accurate kicker, then I think he’ll be the guy. He’s definitely got the leg up (pun intended) on Maher though

Successful playoff teams will win many close games. The kicker may not seem important to some but I wonder how many SBs Brady would have without a clutch kicker. They do not just help win the big games people remember in playoffs but the team got to where it is in the playoffs because of solid kicker play.

I am sure many remember all the failure stories of teams who did not get playoff success because of bad kickers. I do wonder if we currently on this path. Probably just jaded by all of our bad teams recently.
