  • How long is the leash for Wilson?

With Stidham playing well and after a strong outing last night, how long is Wilson’s leash? Looking at the first four games of the schedule, what would it take for Payton to bench Russ?

    9 games long

Stidham was playing backups, 3rd, 4th stringers so I don't think its a given that Stidham is pushing to be a starter, maybe he is but last nights performance just solidified him as the backup to Wilson. Still Wilson has to play well period or I would expect Payton moving on... I think and hope Wilson will play well enough to remain the starter all season, barring injury.

Everybody needs to relax with Stidham. Yes he played great last night.

The Rams STARTERS are number 1 pick worthy let alone their backups.

        Relaxxxxxxxxxx my goodness.

If RW, Stinks and loses three games in a row, I think they should bench him.

He should lead our team to a above 500 level all season long, if not he needs to sit.

When you're paying your QB $50 million dollars a year to be a team leader, you expect results.

He's paid like one of the best, he should play like one of the best, regardless of who the coach is or what the system is, he should be able to rise above that and raise his team as well.

As always, there’s a lot more for me to see and a lot depends on a lot of different circumstances. I won’t actively root for Wilson to fail. There’s a lot of people here who seem like they hope for Wilson to fail (but play it off in a BS “I hope I’m wrong” manner). I’m willing to watch it play out. If Wilson deserves to be benched, I’ll say it if it’s appropriate. Sitting here and trying to predict it just seems like an extremely negative outlook to me.

Came here expecting a knee jerk thread like this, was not disappointed.

Yes Stidham played well (along with several other offensive players) but they were not playing NFL starters...They would not have performed like that against NFL starters. This fanbase has a real issue for always clamoring for the backup after the final preseason game... He isn't going to be our starter and Russ will have to be really bad to lose his job.

The backup QB is always the most popular player on the team… (until he plays)

I do not think RW will get benched.

If he does get hurt (this IS the NFL afterall) we will see how Stidham plays when it matters.

It will NOT happen because RW is benched imo

                      “He didn’t play against starters”

                      …Stidham didn’t play with starters.

How I currently understand the salary cap imo RW will be starter until 2026. The cap and what is an acceptable cap hit does change over time though. Maybe a 31 mil dead cap becomes ok in 2026 when it comes with 27 mil in cap savings.
