    Von Miller’s ceiling
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 19, 2012, 1:48 PM EST

APWe noted early in the 2011 season when the Broncos benched their star rookie Von Miller during the second half of a loss to the Chargers.

Miller didn’t leave the field often after that game. The Denver Post writes that Miller was on the field for 79.7% of the team’s defensive snaps throughout the year. Considering he missed an entire game to injury, that’s a very high number. (It was good for third on the team.)

There were two concerns with Miller heading into his rookie year: He might not not fit Denver’s scheme and that he may “only” be a pass rusher. Both concerns proved overblown.

The Defensive Rookie of the Year quickly showed he was already one of the most gifted pass rushers in the league. The Broncos found ways to use him. Miller’s ability to make plays against the run was a bigger surprise. He earned his playing time by performing a lot better against the run than expected.

The challenge for Miller will be to build on an incredible rookie year. He slowed down in the stretch run after hurting his thumb.

Miller has already shown he can be one of the best outside linebackers in the league. His ceiling at this point seems almost unlimited.

If he continues to improve, Miller can be the best defensive player in the league when he hits his prime.

I agree, he was DEFINITELY the best defensive player in the draft! EFX hit the nail on the head with this pick. Miller is very young and at times was already the best player on the field between both teams...look at the Jets game again! The bolded line is crazy to think about but could easily be true! Can't wait to see Von play when he isn't a rookie and has a full offseason!

That was my second favorite sack of the year..but watching Doom level Brady was epic.

it was nice, but unblocked. Von manhandled a 310 pound man and finished with authority, plus it was in the clutch while NY was trying to go win the game.

Either way, both put a big smile on my face.

My favorite was the Von sack because I was so mad by the time Doom sacked Brady I couldn't even celebrate.

                  Moved this to News Wire.

But good thread I had no idea Miller was going to be this good this fast. I think I was just scared of another Robert Ayers situation, where we would have to wait for him to develop and learn our defense.

Miller was one of 3 or 4 players in the discussion for Defensive Player of the Year prior to breaking his thumb.

I read the title of the thread and thought he painted some Sistine Chapel action in his crib or something... I think I have been reading too many fluff pieces on Tebow

I will add; one of the best things I remember about Von was day one he was talking about hating the raiders and orange crush defense and such. It showed me he cared about the team and the fans and that he wants to be in Denver.
Kyle: Dude! I almost thought those Afghani kids talked you into not liking America.
Stan: No, dude. America may have some problems, but it's our home. Our team. And if you don't wanna root for your team, then you should get the hell out of the stadium.
                        Kyle: Yeah.
Stan:<salutes the American flag> Go America.
                        Kyle:<salutes> Go America...

                        Kyle: Go Broncos.
                        Stan: Yeah, go Broncos.
                        Cartman: Yeah.

The sky is the limit for Miller. He has everything you look for in a "franchise" player on defense. He is fast, quick, tough, mean, plays with an attitude, versatile, atheletic and only wants to get better.

I would love to see Miller standing up a bit more instead of just coming off the edge. If Ayers can progress into a better pass rusher then we could have Miller lining up in all different spots and use his speed to blitz from all positions on the field.

If Miller & Dumervil can stay healthy I dont think there will be a better pass rushing duo in the NFL for the next 5+ years!

I think my other favorite was when Ayers sacked Big Ben on that awesome bull rush he had.

The word 'ceiling' shouldn't be in the same sentence as Von Miller, the guy has as much potential as anyone I've ever seen.
