Former Broncos safety John Lynch is fired up to speak to team

    The Denver Post

Broncos coach John Fox brought in a heavy hitter to speak to the team on the eve of training camp. After the players reported for camp Wednesday, Fox had former Buccaneers and Broncos safety John Lynch address the them at an evening team meeting.

"I was fired up," Lynch said. "The Broncos were always great to me. John Fox and (quarterback) Peyton Manning are friends of mine. It was great."

    And the message?

"I just shared some thoughts about what I think it takes to win a championship," Lynch said. "It's pretty clear, with Peyton there and the players they have, they've got the makings of something special."

Lynch used his Super Bowl ring — from the Buccaneers' victory over the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII to close out the 2002 season — to make the point of what the goal for every team should be.

"I thought he was dead-on on his message of challenging guys to be better than they ever have before," Manning said. "I really appreciated his words. The guys were excited. Guys were pumped."

Moore with starters. After spending the Broncos' offseason workouts and the team's minicamp in a rotation at safety, Rahim Moore was lined up alongside free-agent signee Mike Adams in Thursday's practice.

Moore opened his rookie year as a starter last season, but mistakes in coverage, a smattering of missed tackles and some ill-timed penalties led to Moore's playing time diminishing as the season wore on.

But with a full offseason behind him — Moore didn't have the benefit of offseason workouts last year because of the lockout — his teammates say they see a difference.

"He's good now. It's like night and day," cornerback Champ Bailey said. "Last year, he didn't have a chance to get to know his teammates or anything before we threw him out there. That's why he struggled a little bit. But he's going to be tremendous for us."

Injuries. Defensive tackle Justin Bannan (left calf), wide receiver Brandon Stokley (flu) and defensive end Jamie Blatnick (ankle) did not practice Thursday. Stokley is expected back on the field soon.

Bannan said he suffered his injury in a conditioning workout about two weeks before camp opened.

Footnotes. The Broncos set a non-stadium practice attendance record Thursday morning with 4,371 people crammed into the available seating areas at the team's Dove Valley complex. ... There was one uninvited guest on the field when a dog briefly escaped its owner during the morning practice and ran across the field, leash in tow.
