  • Broncos RB Mario Fannin suffers torn Achilles

Running back Mario Fannin can’t catch a break. Almost exactly a year after suffering a season-ending knee injury during a training camp practice, Fannin injured his Achilles tendon Saturday during the team’s scrimmage, according to multiple sources.

More medical evaluation will be conducted today but the injury appears serious. Fannin was a backfield mate of Cam Newton for the national champion Auburn Tigers before he was signed by the Broncos last year as an undrafted free agent.

Fannin went down with a torn ACL on Aug. 5 last year. He hurt his Achilles tendon this year on Aug. 4.

This is probably a career ender. Sad because he had speed with his size.

Sad news, thought he might have a few snaps this year. At least we have depth but still devastating for Mario.

That's too bad. Never want to hear anything like that, specially for a kid just coming off an ACL tear.

Yeah he's probably done, if not playing football at this level, done with the Broncos.

Wow, just wow. I had high hopes for the guy but he just can't catch a break. I feel bad for him and unfortunately his career may be over before it really began. He worked his hole life to get here and then this.

I feel very sorry for him. Imagine his frustration... 1 year of rehab, recovering from a torn ACL... And now he has a torn Achilles tendon. It's really sad, not only because of the toll on his body but also the toll on his mind. At this point, he must start to think about life after football. It's not a huge blow to the Broncos. The team has depth at RB. Fannin will need a lot of mental strength to continue his football career.

Wow, that really sucks for him. A bit irrelevant to the team, but I never like to see someone fighting to make a place for themselves in the NFL go out like this. Like Roddoliver said, this is going to be a huge blow to him mentally, and I hope he handles it alright.
