NFL Rumors: Colt McCoy to the Denver Broncos?

Think beyond this season. Think 3 or 4 seasons from now. Instead of having 1 prospect (Osweiler) we'd have two prospects at the QB position (Osweiler and McCoy).

I am thinking beyond this season.

Having 2 prospects won't mean anything but a QB controversy in the future and that is quite honestly the last thing we need seeing we've had those for the past decade.

We drafted Brock in the second for him to be our future QB. Us hedging that out by getting McCoy would be like saying we don't have confidence in him and that does nothing for his progress.

And that's with Brock being raw fresh out of college. Once he gets more experienced it won't even be close.

Hopefully its not true. Brock is the heir apparent and Colt cried that he didn't get a fair shot. You come here, you have no shot, you back up Manning, period.

My vote is for none of the above... after watching Hanie last week I shudder to think about watching him lead out team during the regular season.

As for McCoy I just dont see the benefit he brings for what we would probably have to give up for him. I would sooner let Brock/weber get the experience and learn at this point in time.

Neither of them should be on this team. I'd much rather Oz be the number 2, he looks like he can handle himself and grow at the same time.

Osweiler looked fine to me last week, not sure what this guy in the article is talking about. But if we brought in Colt to replace Hanie as the #2 I wouldn't be too upset. The only thing I question would be injuries. If, and that's a big if, Peyton was to re-injure his neck, would we really want his backup to be a QB with a long history of concussions? I don't think so. Colt is one more hit away from retirement IMO, and if that were to happen then we'd be down to 3rd sting QB Osweiler anyways... I say cut Hanie and if Peyton gets hurt we just put Osweiler in there and let him learn by doing.

I don't think he'll ever be a starter in this league. Arm is a little too weak and he's a little too small. Too bad too, I love Colt.

I think this is for beyond the Peyton Manning era. Osweiler as of now is a prospect. We don't know what he's going to be right now. Colt McCoy is also a prospect. We don't know what he's going to be either.

Elway may be looking at this saying 2 prospects are better than one. It's obvious that Caleb Hanie isn't going to be the guy. So why not bring a guy in who possibly could be the guy after Peyton's gone? Colt McCoy did show a lot of promise as a rookie.

Honestly, it depends what we give up for Colt. Giving up a 5th or a 6th for Colt, with his resume, would probably be better than drating a QB in the 5th or 6th. But giving up a 3rd would not be a good move, IMO.

McCoy shouldn't be very happy if he gets traded here. He's in a better position in Cleveland where if Weeden goes down, he's the backup. If he came here, he would have to compete with another rookie QB (Osweiler) and of course, Manning.

Story short - Likely 3rd stringer here, backup in Cleveland.

I don't know much about Colt but he sure never seemed 'tough' enough to be a Bronco

I can understand why we wouldn't thrust Oz into a situation where he could fail just because he's not ready yet -- which could lead to longer lasting problems for him. I get that. I too agree he looked pretty good in PRE1. So did Weber

But it was the first preseason game of the year. Means almost nothing.

I need to see more snaps from Weber before I can feel comfortable supporting Weber or vise verse. Maybe the coaches know exactly what they have in Hanie and Weber. I for one am NOT comfortable supporting Hanie as #2. And the Oz project shouldn't be jeopardized because the Broncos don't have a better option. Maybe Oz is ready, I dunno - but if Elway and Fox and McCoy don't think he is, I can swallow that with no problem.

Colt McCoy just doesn't seem like he'd be any better than Weber or even Hanie for that matter. Mike Martz system wasn't exactly successful -maybe here Hanie can thrive better. And by better - that could still mean not up to Bronco standards.
