At least this year we have depth across the D-line to cushion the blow. I don't see much if any drop off in play by going with Ayers. It's too early to know for sure but Beal and our draftees IMO can give us the depth that we need behind the starters.
In most years, this would be devastating. This year not so much.

Bad news for Hunter. Good news for Ayers. Now he gets yet another opportunity to try to convince the coaches that he can stick in the starting lineup. Also, maybe Wolfe will get some playing time at DE now.

Hopefully Ayers & Beal can continue to perform in similar fashion to how they did against the Bears last week. This is still a big loss, though.

That stinks, he would have been good depth at the very least.
Hopefully Jeremy Beal can step it up and take over the position. I don't know who is beneath Beal though...Malik Jackson??
EDIT: I guess Robert Ayers was behind him in the depth chart, forgot Doom is DE now again lol. So we have Doom, Ayers, Beal and they'll move some of the rookies around DE I guess.Last edited by Uglybass; 08-15-2012, 08:42 AM.

At this point we just bite the bullet, wish Hunter a speedy and proper recovery; and move on.
Next man up!

Jason Hunter
Just heard that he has a torn tricep and will miss 2 months up to possibly the whole season
I heard he had been doing real well in camp too, so this pretty much bites the big one. I guess it'll open more opportunities for Wolfe, but this is a hit to the defensive line.

Jason Hunter Out For At Least Two Months
Broncos' Jason Hunter out at least two months with triceps tear
By Mike Klis
The Denver Post
Chris Kuper wasn't the only starter the Broncos lost during training camp practice Tuesday.
Jason Hunter, who had been promoted to first-string defensive end ahead of Robert Ayers two weeks ago, suffered a triceps tear that will sideline him at least two months and could end his season. Hunter appeared to suffer the injury while popping a blocking sled as the defensive linemen were working through a technique drill.
Broncos defensive tackle Ty Warren suffered a similar injury at about the exact same time last year. After initially holding out hope of returning for the final six weeks of the season, Warren opted to have season-ending surgery.
Hunter, who is two weeks shy of 29, has been a productive player for the Broncos, starting a combined 14 games the previous two years. He had been the team's No. 2 defensive end during the offseason but his spirited, almost maniacal play early in camp caused defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio to move Hunter ahead of Ayers in the team's 4-3 base defense.
Hunter was often involved in altercations with members of the Broncos' offensive line during 11-on-11 drills.
The Broncos are expected to replace Hunter with either Ayers or second-round rookie Derek Wolfe in the base defense.
The Broncos are closing camp with a run of tough luck. Kuper, the Broncos' starting right guard, suffered a fractured left forearm Tuesday, an injury that will sideline him six weeks. And newly signed linebacker Keith Brooking suffered a pulled hamstring that figures to sideline through most of the preseason.
