As much as we want to think it should, money doesn't change a lot of people. Sneaking a drink into a club when you just signed for $23million is pretty stupid or cheap, but signing a big deal doesn't change the fact that you may not be the smartest guy on the field. If he hit the bartender with the glass, I think we'd have a different story, but let's just chalk it up to him being a jerk in this situation.

Why somebody with everything a man could ever want risks it with these legal issues I will never understand.

many of these kids never had two nickels to rub together. being a super athlete kept them from a life in crime or flipping burgers for a living.

Many did not have two parents at home and even if the mother was strict many times she was working two jobs to keep the family fed and housed.

many were in trouble without strong parents and if they were bigger than other kids tended to be on the bully side of growing up.

So is it any wonder that these guys once they get a few bucks in their pockets, without MOM making sure they are doing their homework and are in bed at a decent hour, that they do something stupid?

Many of us that work for a living and are living paycheck to paycheck with a family to feed KNOW we can't go get stupid.

These guys are preached to probably on a daily basis that their lives are under the microscope with the media and the fans because of what they do for a living. What we ask is they actually listen and stay out of trouble.

I could care less if they drink or go to the strip club but for goodness sake stay out of trouble. We all have to abide by rules and laws and I do not think it is too much to ask that these athletes do the same.

I wouldn't call you on this any differently if we were hanging out in person and watching a game and having a couple brewskies -doesn't mean we're not friends or allies. I saw the whole bit about Broncos fans being drunk and loving violence and cheerleaders as calling some of us out as being hypocritical and somehow justifying Ward's actions, and I dont think that's accurate or fair, so I said so.

And now I see you defending him even more and blaming the bartender. I think we are interpreting the report of what happened differently. He brought booze in and got huffy because he was asked to get rid of it and refused to, and got violent. That's typical drunken belligerence and I've seen it a million times. I've also been to those strip clubs IN Denver (a buddy of mine was an asst manager at Shotgun Willie's, and I had a stack of passes in my wallet, plus I dated one of those minx's briefly, years ago) and I've seen firsthand what kind rough characters can come through there. I've known lots of bartenders who were pretty cool especially considering how some people turn into such jerks after a few drinks and their inhibitions go down. That's the main reason they have to keep bouncers in such places, to rein that stuff in.

The bartender in question had nothing to gain here -there's nothing in it for her because she's not starting a civil suit.

Now I'm not condemning Ward or coming at this like the Pope -God knows I made my share of mistakes when I was that age or younger, but I learned from them and I acknowledge them as mistakes, and this was a mistake on Ward's part -that's easy enough to see. Fans are vocal about it here because we just dont want him to jeopardize the team's season or his own career in any way, and incidents like this come too close to that for comfort. It scares me, so I hope this is it, because we need him on the field - badly!

I think we agree far more than we diagree once you boil away the baloney. We both love the Broncos and want them to win and dominate, we both want stupid trolls to shut their traps after we beat their teams, and we both care about the players and want them to have good lives, go out and have fun, but stay out of trouble.

I know your being the grown up here and I no you want Ward just to stay out of the media and do what he was brought in to do.

When if affects the team, it's no longer just about TJ Ward. If it's a distraction, or he ends up missing time in the field, the it's a problem for the Broncos. Time will tell. Otherwise, I don't care what people do on their own time.

Last I checked Ward will pay for his stupidity 10 fold. Hes already dealing with legal issues, the media has blown up what he did._ How has he responded? He didn't run. He went to court hes dealing with it and hopefully learns his lesson. Im still a fan of the guy im not going to judge him over one incident.
And maybe your not aware of nightclub staff, there no angels ive seen these people abuse there authority many times. This bartender took his drink and poured it out, then he reacted and tossed a glass at her in a way to annoy her not injure her, if that was his intent im sure he could have. Why didn't she have the bouncers kick him out, why did she grab his personal property and pour it out? Sounds like she didn't care about the incident until she new who he was. Sorry I dont feel sorry for the victim a strip club bartender.

If those actions are unspsortsmanlike, or against the law, then yes. If those actions stain the image of the team or franchise, or might cause punishment from the league and lead to suspension, yes, no tolerance for it. The coaches and front office dont tolerate it either.

You seem to be implying that we should all approve of Ward's stupid and illegal actions and anyone who disapproves of it is a hypocrite, and you are exaggerating about that big time:

1. The violence on the field is not ancient Roman gladiatoral bloody combat --there's no weapons, and lots of rules including such against fighting. Football is not about assault and battery.

2. "Half-naked"? So cheerleader outfits are like porn? They show less skin than you see at the beach or a swimming pool.

3. And all the fans at the games are drunks and alcoholics? Not even! There's kids, families, old people -every type of person, and that's been the case at every game I've ever been to at Mile High since '92.

And Ward may be acting like many reckless young guys, but not all of them out there are racking up assault charges. The problem is not girls, strip clubs, or drinking, it's openly attacking someone so that the police are called and headlines are made everywhere. He needs to stop and think about his position and what he's doing -that's not beyond the capability of a guy his age, or too much to expect.

Broncos' T.J. Ward accused of throwing mug at strip club bartender

Broncos safety T.J. Ward is accused of throwing a glass mug at a strip club bartender after she told him outside drinks were not allowed, according to court documents.

Ward appeared in Denver County Court on Friday and was issued a summons in connection with a disturbance at an all-nude strip club where he was partying with a teammate and a former Broncos player.

Authorities set a $1,900 bond for Ward, 27. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 23.

Denver police issued a warrant for Ward on Thursday, charging him with misdemeanor assault and disturbing the peace....

According to a Denver Police Department report, other staff members later told her it was Ward and that his entourage included Terrance Knighton, a Broncos defensive tackle, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, a cornerback who played for the Broncos last season and now is with the New York Giants.

Ward appeared in court Friday morning. The warrant was dismissed because it had been mistakenly issued by the police, his attorney, Abe Hutt, said. Instead, Ward was given a ticket and another court date. He was not arrested or booked at the jail....

Ward signed with the Broncos in mid-March as a free-agent safety. He spent his first four years in the NFL playing for the Cleveland Browns, after playing college football at Oregon.

Under NFL rules, Ward could be fined by the league for a misdemeanor offense, but a league-ordered suspension is considered unlikely.
