  • Former Broncos players call out John Fox, Broncos coaches

John Fox's gameplan and sideline execution was sketchy at best Sunday. Former Broncos called him, Jack Del Rio, and Adam Gase out on it on Twitter during Denver's 22-7 loss to the Rams.

Fans complaining about the coaches is a weekly tradition in Broncos Country.

Former players are usually a little more political with their critical tweets. Not Sunday.

Wide receiver Mark Jackson - one of the Denver Broncos' "Three Amigos," and the player who caught John Elway's game-tying touchdown pass on The Drive - was critical of Jack Del Rio after the Rams converted another 3rd and long in the 3rd quarter. Safety Nick Ferguson, who played for five seasons with the late-era Mike Shanahan-led Broncos, chimed in. Then safety Brian Dawkins called out the offensive playcalling late in the game.

Broncos alumni are often a lot like fans on Twitter during the game - frustrated during losses, and speaking their minds.

Del Rio is at Fault for the defense. Elway and Jon Fox are at fault for the kicking situation (could've brought a vet while McManus develops). Manning is at fault for the offense. We all know Manning changes about 80% of the plays called.

I found it interesting how vehemently Champ Bailey made a point to not indicate he was talking about the 'current' staff when he mentioned in passing how he'd been through, bad teams good teams - bad coaching good coaching - 'but not THIS staff!' lol

Maybe he understood the current heat on them, or maybe he was being completely honest. One thing Champ has been throughout his career was honesty. He'd either not say anything or if he'd comment it would usually be honest.

But it was a day of class and dignity so a little white lie wouldn't be a big deal imho. I do wonder how the actual players on the roster are feeling about our current staff. As bad as it's been the past 3-4 weeks, no one can deny how far this team has gotten in recent years including 3 consecutive AFCW Championships -which is a Denver 1st.
The beatings will continue until morale improves....

I am having mixed feelings about former players criticizing the current coaching staff. It makes perfect sense that fans would be lighting their hair on fire about what has been happening and the glaring problems with the coaching. But it somehow feels disingenuous when former players do it. It kind of feels like kicking someone when they are down. I'm not sure how helpful it is.

I actually think he was talking about McDaniels. Champ made mo bones about his dislike of him while he was here.

Agreed. That was a shot at McD, not Fox.

They all need to be called out...especially Elway and reminded of what it was that finally got him those two rings.

Running and the Alex Gibbs ZBS.

Cause for whatever reason Elway seems to have forgotten that part.

I like Fox and I think he and the coaching staff should be called out. They had a terrible game and playing/coaching like that is a huge step back.

I also partially wonder if it was a shot at Shanahan. We all loved him (for the most part), but apparently a lot of players didn't like the way he ran things.

The defense was fine, can't fault jdr for carter jumping a short route when he's the deep safety, that's bad awareness on him. Every other score was a fg in which our offense put our defense in a terrible spot

Though his defense did limit the Rams to a ton of field goals, he didn't dial up the blitz on crucial downs. Why send Von Miller in coverage when he's a blitz specialist? He just didn't have the right play called on third downs and it's been the story of the year so far. I love Del Rio. I think he's one of the better defensive coordinators in the league and love his aggressive blitz happy scheme, but he's off this year. I hope he dials it up and brings the heat these last 6 games.

Good, I hope Dawk gave Gase and JDR the mad face and a good what for while he was here for Champ's retirement.
