  • Denver Broncos kickers: Killing two birds with one stone

Brandon McManus was cut because he was inaccurate as a FG kicker. Connor Barth is accurate on FGs, but he has historically been bad at kickoffs. ... Perhaps a change at punter is the answer?

No we have one of the best punters in the league, would be silly to cut him, just need to find a kicker who can do both well.

But he isn't, he's overrated and overpaid. He never flips field position. If we go 3 and out after a touchback, the other team is going to start their drive around the 50. People complain about our defense and the ppg but colquitt not being able to flip field position is a big part in us allowing 23 ppg.

colq has not been good this year. overpaid big time.

"Denver Broncos kickers: Killing two birds with one stone"

Are you implying with that title that McManus hit and subsequently killed two birds on a FG attempt?

In all seriousness, to quote the esteemed Yogi Berra, "In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is." Which might apply to our PK situation. I think we'd rather have the sure points if we have to choose. Let the 10 other guys on ST stop the return, and let the kicker make the FGs.

I wish McManus well. I bet with time, practice, and experience, he could turn in to a pretty reliable kicker.

apparantly we will look at bringing him back for playoffs. Its been suggested before, I for one am in favor of it, provided his punts can hang with britton. However, I would NOT cut colquitt this year. He is the holder on the FGs and such. Dont need a rook messing that up at crunch time.

Yea, they were stunned by the impact of a direct hit from the ball and fell off the upright.

All this talk will vanish after Sunday's game when Barth kicks some touchbacks in the thin air.

lol, altitude doesn't add 15 yards to kickoffs.

Also, the thought of McManus being a plug-and-play superior punter to Colquitt is ludicrous, and the author of that article ought to feel ashamed for wasting his and our time.

We already got rid of one of the best kickers in the league, yeah, let's get rid of one of the best punters, too.

there is more to judging "best punter" than just looking at net yards or average kick. there are contextual issues that need to be taken into account such as what yardline do they average punting from? Maybe they don't want to punt it too far since they are already too close to the endzone

Hang time, too, as well as OOB inside the +20. IMO one of the greatest plays in football is when Punt Team downs the ball inside the +10 which fits your example.

Exactly. Britton is tied for 8th in punts inside the 20 and has only 1 touchback this entire year. There are only two other punters with 1 touchback, and combined they have punted less times than Colquitt.

He also is 8th in fair catches, so he is getting decent hang time.
