  • Will Peyton Manning retire? QB linked as potential owner of NFL team

    For whatever it's worth........

Rumor has it that this was something offered to try and get him to go to the Titans rather than us. (or perhaps it was a front office job when he was done, but for some reason I thought ownership)

It'd be weird for him to be part owner of a division rival to the team he spent most of his life on. (though obviously since he has a storied history with Tennessee it makes sense in that respect)

You're right, Freyaka. The Titans Owner offered Peyton part ownership during the Free Agent process.

I thought that's what I remembered and I remember thinking at the time "that's freaking shady...piece of crap...."

Yeah, it was part ownership. But that was based on the owner Bud Adams who really liked Manning. Adams passed away in 2013 I believe. I have no idea if this new report is anything more than simply idle speculation.

Hmmmm... Manning's estimated net worth is around 165 million dollars. That is a "trivial" personal wealth in the NFL owners group!

I don't think the article has any "teeth". It's just somebody engaging in speculation, based on:
                1) His popularity in Tennessee
                2) He was offered a stake in the Titans by Bud Adams (back in 2012)
                3) He's a big draw, who could attract interest
                4) The Titans are rumoured to be up for sale in 2015
                5) He and Ashley are part owners of the Memphis Grizzlies

He's big in Tennessee, they really wanted him there instead of Denver, but the Broncos were a much better proposition.

Just curious, an internet aquaintence of mine, said that this story was "all over" the news in Tennessee (I assume Nashville).
                  The story speculates that:
Jim Haslam current owner of the Browns, and his brother Bill Haslam (current governor of Tennessee), are the power brokers behind this story. They are both UT alum, as of course is Manning, and Jim Haslam is also friends with Manning. He tried to get Peyton involved with the Browns purchase.

At any rate, I was wondering if anything has appeared in the Denver area media?

Today is press day correct? Maybe someone will ask Peyton about this rumor?

If Titans could potentially garner bids upwards of $2 billion, it makes you wonder how much Broncos is worth.

Bigger market (and growing at a faster rate - city county, metro and state), richer history (more division titles, second most SB appearances and two SB wins), second best sellout crowd (1970, second to 1965 Packers), better stadium, better everything measurable that I'm aware of.

Good luck Elway and Manning, it will take more than Papa Johns and successful car dealerships. Even combined we're at what.. 300+ million combined? Yeah..

For me... his personality, preparation, expectations of his teammates, etc... why wouldn't he coach? It seems to me that he would be a really good coach.
