  • Joel Dreesson compares John Fox and Gary Kubiak; endorses Kubiak

    http://sportsshow.denverpost.com/201...oach-position/

Would Gary Kubiak be a good coach for the Denver Broncos? Former Broncos tight end Joel Dreessen gave him his full endorsement.

“I felt better,” Dreessen told The Sports Show on Friday of his game preparation under Kubiak. “I wasn’t practicing as long. I wasn’t in meetings as long. … Saturday nights, when coach Gary Kubiak would speak, everybody in that room would get chills on their arms. We’d all go to team snack just all fired up ready to run through a brick wall for the guy. There’s an element of ho-hum to John Fox, where Saturday nights you walk out of there like, ‘All right, it’s another ball-game.’ You want to bleed for a guy like Gary Kubiak. Not that I didn’t want to bleed for John Fox, but there’s a different way they go about speaking to the team. I love Gary Kubiak. I’d take a bullet for that man. I think he’s a phenomenal football coach. I do.”

Shapiro asked Dreessen whether there was ever a question about a lack of killer instinct, killer instinct or preparation.

“I always enjoyed John Fox,” Dreessen said. “I did enjoy him as a head ball coach. There were some things that — like I said, I spent five years with Gary Kubiak — there are some distinct differences that stand out to me to this day — like speed of practice being one of them.”

Fox’s practices, Dreessen said, tended to be longer and slower and filled with meetings that would extend through much of the day. Meetings under Kubiak had a purpose, he said.

“With Coach Kubiak, the practice was as fast as can be. We were moving from drill to drill. If you were walking, you were wrong. You were getting yelled at.”

He said he had “no doubt” Kubiak would be a great fit for the Broncos.

“He would never let his team step on the field that uninspired, especially when it mattered most. There’s no doubt in my mind.”

But Kubiak was a reluctant head coach — and had to be convinced to take the Texans’ job. Will that also be true here?

“So if I’m John Elway, I need to look in his eyes and ask him, ‘Do you really want to be a head coach?” Shapiro says. “‘Are you really committed? Are you healthy enough to be a head coach?’ Because he had the problems in Houston, collapsing on the field. If I’m convinced after looking in his eyes that Gary wants to do this, and he can give it his all, and he can roll up his sleeves, he’ll be living it, breathing it and drinking it, then I’m hiring him.”
    Certainly gets me excited.

That is very telling when a former player has those kind of comments.

Sounds like Fox did not motivate his team much, but i think many of us knew that already & it really sucks because with the talent on this team...we should have won at least one super bowl over that last 3 years.

Or atleast made a better showing in the postseason. The team just seemed flat.

          Yep

allot of us be getting this vibe even as fans but it is very interesting to see someone say it who saw it from the inside

Great QBs make up for allot of crap

on a side note it is nice to see what kind of coach Kubiak is. I knew we needed a coach who can inspire the players but I honestly was not sure if that was Kubes
Time to build on the win and grow the team from some solid play higher level of play

Those who agree have been getting crap for the last several months saying we don't have a clue. Couldn't be happier we got rid of the Ho-Hum Dumb Dumb.

When Manning joined the Broncos, didn't they say that practices would go at the quarterback's pace? I think they did.

              Maybe Manning is the issue.

Maybe that was just a temporary thing while Manning was get acclimated to his new surroundings.

One thing is for sure, if Kubiak comes in he needs to make Peyton understand this is his team, I will call the offense, I will run the practices, etc. If Peyton cant accept that he should be shown the door.

Me personally, I would love to see what Brock can do in Kubiak's offense. Show Peyton the door, re-sign a couple of our FA's and bring in a couple more that can help out!

Football is a cold hard business. This statement is cold hearted. However, I support this cold hearted truth. Lets just make sure we get Rick Dennison in here for OC and go ahead and get Vance from Cincinatti for our DC. Draft OL early and often, then MLB & Safety in FA........Championship !!!!!

                    "seemed"??

It was like they knew they were going to take it on the chin and did the old X-ian thing of turning the other cheek instead of bracing for it and countering with a mighty blow of their own...It was like that Mike Tyson fight that lasted 30 seconds or something insane like that.
