To portray this as a rebuttal to the idea of someone being greedy isn't really accurate.

I really do wonder why this isn't being discussed as Manning just taking less money. We asked the same thing of Dumervil and if it wasn't for faxgate he would've accepted it. That wasn't a restructure, just a pay cut.
Exactly, I'm glad someone else pointed this out so I don't have to

Manning is greedy as hell, anyone trying to argue that is a Manning homer, straight up

"Hmm hmm hm hm hmm hm hm"....can't wait to hear that 50x again...or watch him promote his 30 Papa John's franchises....the guy is set for life and his kids are set for life...there is no reason his contract should exceed $8-10mil this year if he's serious about winning

If your getting paid to play a sport sport, you want that one last big pay check to make up for all your bone head purchases and bad investments through out your career.

Peytons not greedy but smart. He wants to continue living how he does now when the NFL over for him.

Reality is, Peytons first, the Broncos are second. He wants the money.

He is worth$165 million. He is going to be making somewhere around 10-14 million this year. Plus with all the millions he will be making from endorsement for the rest of his life. The guy is not worried about money or one last big pay day so he can survive after football

Why is he greedy? We offered him $20 mil a year, compared to Tennessee 's $25 mil a year offer he signed with us, and we have gone 13-4, 15-4, & 12-5 if you count playoff games. He has stayed hours after practice helping DT, Decker, Sanders, Julius, Montee Ball and more working on routes, and going over the playbook. Mannings put in more time than any player on our team and is the closest thing to a player coach in the league. Don't get me wrong I would love it if Manning walked in and said cut me and I'll resign a 1 year deal for $10 mil, but to call him greedy for accepting an offer, and holding up his end of the bargain is not fair.
Walmart has billions should they just give food away? Bill Gates is the richest man in the world should he sell his products at a cheap price now ? It's buisness. Manning has earned his paycheck and isn't greedy if he wants to stick to what was agreed. Brady just got a ring by restructuring his deal and an additional $3 million on top of it.
Unless your putting your body on the line you can't say what you'd really give up.

I'll believe it when I see it - I really think nothing will be worked out because it was dependent on signing DT to a long-term contract with a low first year cap number. I still think we part ways with Peyton and fill our holes with free agent market with the added salary cap savings - Flame On

LOL! I love when people decide how much another person should make. Wanting Manning to take a 50% pay cut or else he is greedy... Cracks me up.

Let me ask you this; If your boss came to you and said "hey I see you have that new Toyota Camry parked out front. You seem to be doing well... Maxing out your 401K. Doing WAY better than homeless Pete down on the corner there. Im gonna need you to take a 50% paycut so we can bring in some more people to increase our bottom line. If you dont, you are just a greedy person and should be ashamed. Now go off and eat your Taco Bell nachos Mr. Money Bags while Alice in accounting eats her PB & J she brought from home"

I will never understand people wanting to limit others. If someone is a billionaire that means they should stop earning money? Lets redistribute the wealth. Increase taxes. "Those people dont deserve more than I do!" Ok Ok.. sorry... I will get off my anti socialist soap box...

Manning deserves whatever anyone will pay him. If its the Broncos, or Papa John, or whoever. They will move money around to help the team. Manning may make more overall, or less overall. Thats up to him and the Broncos. But earning what you are worth doesnt make you greedy in my opinion. I wouldnt take a pay cut if my boss asked me to thats for sure. (I would however take less money monthly and move it to a bonus if it helped me avoid taxes or help my bottom line in some way)
Kyle: Dude! I almost thought those Afghani kids talked you into not liking America.
Stan: No, dude. America may have some problems, but it's our home. Our team. And if you don't wanna root for your team, then you should get the hell out of the stadium.
                    Kyle: Yeah.
Stan:<salutes the American flag> Go America.
                    Kyle:<salutes> Go America...

                    Kyle: Go Broncos.
                    Stan: Yeah, go Broncos.
                    Cartman: Yeah.

If Manning wants the best chance to win a ring before his time with us is up...Yes he should take a pay cut. He takes up a large portion of our cap right now and we really need to maintain the talent level around him if we want one last shot at a ring.

But please, make this a political arguement so this thread can be locked/cleaned...

That was a terrible attempt at a point.

                        Both scenarios are nothing alike.

If I had $200Mil + and I was 40 and giving it my last shot for a championship, I would absolutely help my team out, that's just how I am...straight up....I've lived and bled sports since I was 4 ...I'm all about winning man and I'd want that ring bad, I do what it takes, absolutely...obviously I can't prove this but it's the damn truth, no doubt about it

Now working a job where I have to live paycheck to paycheck and am barely making enough to survive...awful comparison man, not even close to the same thing...I take a 50% paycut and my entire life changes I'm probably on the street...Manning wouldn't even notice...major difference

Actually I think the point was made. It may have been articulated in a way that one may or may not appreciate but the bottom line is a player is worth what any given team is willing to pay them.

A number of people have insisted PM is greedy for not taking a cut or not saying he would take a cut. There are a lot of good reasons why the argument can be made for a cut, first and foremost as Freyaka mentioned regarding talent.

But going after a guy by saying he's greedy is just silly, especially when considering his amount of charity work and donations far exceed what a lot of people do or give in their entire lives.

I believe it more of a semantics issue between worth and value but don't think that should be used to characterize somebody as greedy when we don't know the person, don't know the terms currently under negotiation, don't know the legal or contractual issues involved to make any determination.

PM should take a cut so long as we don't bleed for the next few years due to a significant hit with the cap.

The major difference is it's his decision (what ever that decision turns out to be). Who am I to tell anybody what to do with their life, salary, family, anything?

PM should take a cut for the team, not for me, not because that is what I would do... for the team...
