  • TE Virgil Green, Broncos agree to three-year contract

On NFL.com it states that Green is "mulling a multi-year deal" I hope ultimately he takes it. Green is valuable in the sense that he can block well. On the other hand he has not, in his first 4 years proven to be the "go to" TE receiving the ball. Thomas was injured for most of his first two seasons and came on in his 3rd season ... Green had his opportunity over a 2+ year timeline to beat out the go to TE for Manning.

I want Green back, but he has no real leverage as a receiving TE and TE's don't get paid big for their blocking.

If an offense is to be balanced, TEs must be good blockers; in a pass heavy offense, ... not so much. TEs who can block 0 techs, like Virgil Green, are special IMO.

I don't argue that they are "special", my point is that they are not high priced. They don't get paid for their blocking ability very well... especially relative to what a receiving TE gets... like Julius Thomas will get.

Sure. We'll find out how much the Broncos think Virgil Green can help them and how much he is worth to them.

Actually I think it is more up to other teams to determine what Green is worth, I do hope the Broncos out bid all offers.

I will leave that up to the armchair GMs.

Broncos have apparently offered Virgil Green 2-3 Mil contract offer.

                broncos-virgil-green-contract/

The Broncos want Virgil Green to return as their backup tight end, but will he want to come back?

The team has reportedly offered him a multiyear contract, believed to be worth somewhere in the $2 million to $3 million per year range, according to The Denver Post.

“The Broncos have talked to me. They didn’t tell me what my role would be but they made it clear how valuable I was to them. I love playing in Denver, and I love the fans. But I can’t make the decision just based on that,” Green said. “I appreciate the offer. But I don’t want to react too quickly until I know how other teams see me.”

There are apparently six to eight other teams seriously interested in signing Green to a contract.

I have a feeling Julius Thomas is in his ear. They are stronger working together ....

I think most teams realize that he can be a legitimate receiving threat and will pay him for his potential in that area. His blocking will be icing on the cake if he shows off the receiving prowess he had in college and athleticism coming out for the draft

Coming out, Green was considered a "poor man's Vernon Davis". With Davis on the decline, Green makes a lot of sense for them.

Worst case scenario, if we lose V Green,
                          then perhaps M. Unrein at 6'4, 276 (40: 4.89 sec)
will see "some" playing time at TE.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, but he did
catch a TD as a sixth OL.

                          Thoughts?

Sure, I mean why not? Maybe Kubes will let Manning play some kicker as well.
