Were those JUST safety picks or all of their picks.

IIRC Billy T got a lot as a CB.

But that said he will get a better perspective by playing FS part time. I would applaud the move who knows perhaps he turns into an all Pro there.

Goose Gonsoulin is second in career picks for the Broncos at 43, one fewer than Steve Foley. However, Gonsoulin's picks came in seven years and 94 games while Foley's came in eleven years and 150 games. Three of Goose's picks came his last season with the Niners. All of his were as a Safety. He died in September last year.

Steve Foley, a career Bronco, had about half his 44 picks as a Corner.

Billy Thompson had 40, 29 of which came from the S position. His thirteen year career was all in Denver.

Tyrone Braxton had 34 about half of which came when he was a S including 1996 when he had 9. He played one season in Miami.

Mike Harden had 33 picks as a Bronco and 5 as a Raider. About 10 of his Bronco picks came from the Safety spot.

Charlie Greer, a CU Buffalo, played all his seven pro years in Denver. He had 17 picks all except four of which came as a Safety.

John Rowser had a ten year NFL career (26 picks) with three teams (GB, Pitt, Den). His last three seasons were in Denver where he had 5 picks as a FS and 4 as a Corner.

Among our CBs, I think the best fit at FS is Aqib Talib. He won't be placed there, but I think he is the best fit. At 6'1, 205, he has more size and range than the others to fight for jump balls and he also has plenty of ball skills to be a ballhawk patrolling the field. He's the most experienced CB and would probably have the smoother transition with his football knowledge. He is also our best option to cover TEs. Considering he will be 30 years old next year, he will lose speed every year and won't remain an effective CB for too long.

A move to FS would extend his career as a starter in the NFL and give him a better chance to play out his contract. In 2-3 years he won't be a Bronco playing CB with his current contract. He can struggle against quick WRs (see T.Y. Hilton) and if we use him in press coverage he gets beat deep. We got lucky last season because several deep passes should have been touchdowns against Talib.

Roby showed a lot of good things as a rookie and I hope this experiment does not hurt his development.

If Roby can progress more this season it could spell the end for Talib. But if we tried him out at FS it could make him even more valuable to the team going forward.

Harris-Talib-Ward-Roby would arguably be one of the top 3 secondaries in the NFL.

This is all very hypothetical though.

Presumably Roby would be competing with Stewart for a starting spot. They could conceivably use Roby in certain nickel situations where he's covering a tight end or slot receiver.

With three Safeties, they could play it like a 3-3-5 or Ward could be in the box as a Backer like he did some last year. That could make for some confusing reads. They could run Cover 1 or 0, Cover2/Tampa 2/Robber, Cover 3, Combo, etc.
