    - Projecting production: Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning -

"Stats don't tell the whole story in football, but the best players in the game typically post the best numbers.

Whether it's passing, rushing or tackling, the leaders in every category are there for a reason. Production is everything, and if a player doesn't produce he might not have a job for long.

It's impossible to know exactly from year to year what kind of stats players will put up, but past performance can provide a good indication of what to expect from certain guys. So as we try to survive the off-season, we'll take a look at a few players' numbers from previous years and how they might perform in 2015.

    Peyton Manning, Quarterback

    2014 stats: 397-for-597 (66.2%), 4,727 yards, 39 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, 101.5 quarterback rating.

    Career Averages (16 years): 370-for-566 (65.5%), 4,355.7 yards, 33.1 touchdowns, 14.6 interceptions, 97.5 rating.

    2015 Projection: 355-for-522 (68%), 4,020 yards, 35 touchdowns, 10 interceptions

Thoughts: There's a belief that the Broncos will rely more heavily on the run in 2015 with first-year head coach Gary Kubiak, and that's likely going to me somewhat true. But if all reports have been accurate, and Manning's arm is looking as strong as ever at 39 years old, there's no way Kubiak and offensive coordinator Rick Dennison don't utilize the future Hall of Famer. ...

Where Manning will benefit from Kubiak's offense most will probably be in his efficiency." ...

    - Projecting production: Denver Broncos OLB Von Miller -

    "Von Miller, Outside Linebacker

    2014 Stats: 59 tackles, 14 sacks, 1 forced fumble

Career Averages (Per Season): 56.3 tackles, 12.3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles

    2015 Projection: 65 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles

Thoughts: Miller is good enough to thrive in any system, but the 3-4 defense the Broncos will employ this season should be perfect for the fifth-year outside linebacker.

Miller's role will change somewhat in 2015, as he'll move to strong side linebacker, which means he'll have more responsibilities against the runs and could notch even more tackles than projected as a result. However, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said he still plans on featuring Miller's ability as a pass rusher. ...

Although it didn't have much an effect on him in 2014, Miller also enters 2015 without any concerns regarding his health. His 14 sacks and overall production last year were made even more impressive that he was coming off a torn ACL. Now further removed from that injury, Miller is at full strength and poised for another big year as part of what should be a terrifying defense for opposing quarterbacks."

      - Projecting production: Denver Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas -

      "Demaryius Thomas, Wide Receiver

      2014 Stats: 111 catches, 1,619 yards, 11 touchdowns

Career Averages (Per Season): 70.2 catches, 1,063.4 yards, 8.2 touchdowns

      2015 Projection: 90 catches, 1,314 yards, 10 touchdowns

Thoughts: Thomas isn't typically talked about as the best receiver in the NFL, but his production the last three years says otherwise. He's gone for more than 92 catches and 1,400 yards each of those seasons, including 111 receptions, 1,619 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2014. Those consistently impressive numbers are why Thomas is seeking a lucrative extension from the Broncos this offseason and was absent throughout OTAs and minicamp.

Entering the 2015 season, which Thomas will play on a one-year deal after being franchised if a deal isn't reached by July 15, the sixth-year receiver likely has similar expectations for himself. However, it will probably be difficult for Thomas to match the production of the last three seasons. ...

Thomas will still likely have a nice 2015 season. Without tight end Julius Thomas in the mix, he could see more red zone targets to help him keep his touchdown numbers up, and he'll still be a favorite target of Manning's." ...

        - Projecting Production: Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson -

        "C.J. Anderson, Running Back

2014 Stats: 179 carries, 849 yards, eight touchdowns, 34 recetions, 324 yards, two touchdowns

Career Averages (Per Season): 93 carries, 443.5 yards, four touchdowns, 17 receptions, 162 yards, one touchdown

        2015 Projection: 310 carries, 1,457 yards, 16 touchdowns, 60 receptions, 580 yards, four touchdowns

Thoughts: The above numbers would make Anderson one of the most productive players in the NFL this season, and while they might be lofty marks, he certainly seems capable of reaching them. ...

...The third-year running back will have an opportunity he hasn't had yet in his career. He'll enter Week 1 as the Broncos' starting running back, playing in a system that's highly favorable for ball carriers with his style. Denver is also expected to place a bigger emphasis on running the ball, so it's fair to say Anderson could be one of the most utilized backs in the NFL." ...

If 2014 was a breakout year for Anderson, 2015 has a chance to be something special."

I hope he does produce like this. This means PM will most likely be throwing less and resting his old bones. Gives us a chance to be more fresh down the stretch, when we may need him.

The Broncos will probably average about 65 play per game which would be about 1040 plays for the season. If Denver is 45% run/55% pass, that would be about 572 pass attempts and 468 rush attempts.

Peyton Manning's career completion % is about 65. If he does that this year, he will complete about 372 passes. Even if his ypa dropped to 7, that's still 4000 yards at least. He should probably be in the mid to high thirties for TDs and the mid teens for picks.

If CJ Anderson gets 60% of the rushing attempts and averages 5 ypa, that's about 1400 yards. He caught 34 passes in seven starts last year. If he starts every game this year, he will probably have well over 50 receptions.

We shall see how it goes.
