  • Peyton Mannings problem isnt his lack of arm strength

The latest football news, analysis, and rankings from PFF. Featuring data-driven rankings and stats for NFL, fantasy football, and the NFL Draft.

The point I’m making? Manning having a noodle-arm is nothing new, and he’s been an All-Pro with it multiple times before.

What is new is the rate at which he hit the turf against the Ravens. It looked like he was under constant duress from the Baltimore pass-rush, but he was actually only pressured on 29.5 percent of his passing plays (13 QBs were pressured at a greater rate in Week 1, through Sunday’s games), and while that represents a significant jump from his league-best mark of 21 percent a year ago, the more interesting number is the percentage of that pressure that resulted in Manning getting sacked.

Manning is typically the best quarterback in football at mitigating the pressure from his offensive line and avoiding sacks. Linemen get beat, but Manning feels the pressure coming and knows exactly where to go with the ball, turning sacks for most quarterbacks into just pressure on him.

He has led the league in that percentage in three of the past five seasons, and has never allowed more than 17.4 percent of his pressure to result in sacks — and that came in the first season in Denver in a new offense. Against Baltimore he was sacked on 30.8 percent of his pressured plays. Manning seemed confused and surprised by the pressure he was facing, unusually unable to adjust to it and find his outlet.

Manning couldn't throw a 10 yard pass to DT. You can't play in the NFL if you can't make 10 yard passes no matter how smart you are.

I think arm strength is still part of the big picture problem. Just his physical capabilities altogether, as well as his realization of this causing him to doubt himself and play scared.

lol...he didnt complete a offside bootleg because he rushed it and didn't set his feet...not because he couldnt

He had no pressure and DT was wide open, Manning threw it 8 yards into the dirt. That's only 1 of the MANY throws he missed because he put them in the dirt.

Manning is still the best QB on the Broncos roster! Give him more than one game before you execute him! It is combining his skills to a new system. Believe me, if the coaches didn't thing he could throw a ball more than 10 yards, they would cut him and he probably would retire.

That's such a wasted sentence, "Manning is the best QB on the Broncos roster"

That's not a fact and can't be proven right or wrong until Osweiler gets in the game.

and rolling to his left as a right hander is one of the hardest throws to make on the move...put it in the context that it happened
manning has never been a roll out passer....had it been to his right im sure he woulda hit DT

rolling left was a plummer thing, he could do that better then anyone in the league...it is not one of mannings strongpoints

Then he shouldn't be starting in Kubiaks WCO roll out offense.

It is common knowledge that Peyton Manning has never had an arm we all know that.

Right now he cannot complete a pass more than 8 yards. This offense is reminiscent of the Mike Shanahan Brian Griese offense, teams are going to stack the line of scrimmage and dare Manning to beat them with his arm which we cannot do any longer.

This is the inconvenient truth. We all love Manning but most of us are not going to except the excuses anymore because our eyes do not lie to us.

These hard headed attitudes caused us to miss out on Tyrod Taylor! Who knows how he'll turn out in buffalo this season but he knew Kubiaks offense and could had been our next great QB. Just saying!

These hard headed feelings could have us missing out on Brock Osweiler too.

Of course and I'm excited to see what Brock can do in Gary Kubiaks system however like I said Taylor already knew the system with our offense and defense clicking on all cylinders who knows how far we could've went this season.

I'm not hating on Peyton at all I just don't see him getting any better. 39-year-old quarterbacks don't get better, it hasn't happened yet in the NFL.

The throw to Thomas was off because Manning was on the move and he struggles with those types of throws. The pick-six was thrown while Manning was being hit because he did not see the DB blitz (which surprised me). Other opportunities missed were overthrows, not underthrows. I think his arm strength has not changed that much, but he is not comfortable in the pocket with this OL. He's starting to look like Orton diving at the sight of pressure. And it's obvious he's missing the presence of Julius Thomas on the field.

There were several under throws. The pick 6 wasn't only because manning got pressure but also that the pass he threw was a soft duck that had no speed and gave the DB 3 days to break on the ball. He's supposed to be a HOF top 3 all time QB and he can't hit a 10 yard pass on the run??? Come on man, seriously?
