  • Evan Mathis to Cardinals

Cardinals signed OG Evan Mathis, formerly of the Broncos, to a one-year, $6 million contract.

After winning the Super Bowl with the Broncos last month, Mathis was contemplating retirement at 34 years old. Even at his advanced age, Mathis is still playing at a very high level. He's been Pro Football Focus' No. 1 overall run-blocking guard four of the past five seasons and is coming off one of those years. It's unclear if Mathis or incumbent LG Mike Iupati will kick to right guard.

Evan was a good guy, so I am happy for him. I never have understood PFF's fascination with him. He is ranked high as a run blocker, but I rarely saw him make monster holes. Almost every time he pulled, I would see the OLB/DE penetrate the backfield and ruin our sweep, I mean like EVERY TIME!

I wish Evan Mathis the best. Thanks for helping us get the SB win!

This was not much of a surprise that he is leaving the Broncos.

The 1yr/6 million contract might help us get a compensatory pick later. (Not 100% sure)

Yeah. My guess, for $6 million, if Mathis starts we will get a 5th. If he shines we will get a 4th. That inflated salary is good news!

Mathis is a funny dude if you follow him on twitter.

With the rumor it looks like Den is moving Ty inside, not a huge surprise.

I think he already lives there, doesn't he?

I imagine more athletes live in state of California than any other state.
