Pretty much what I thought, rail against the wind that the CBA is what it is, but set aside conviction for a guy you feel is outside the rules. Neither guy is on the free market, so neither guy is entitled to more than they have been tendered. Difference is VM wants 8M above what he is getting and sure Marshall would be maybe what 3M more?

That's not what I said, Von should do the same as Marshall in my opinion and play for his contract. Its in his best interest to sign a long term deal but if he doesn't think the teams offer is fair then he doesn't have to sign, and eventually he will be a free agent or traded if they cant work something out. Did you feel bad for the team when we spent the #2 overall pick on Von and he decided to cheat drug tests, and got suspended? Or when we paid him despite his injury? Those aren't a big deal right only that he is being underpaid now.

Such an unfair system! I wonder where else you can be suspended for a failed drug test and then be Superbowl MVP!

And if its so unfair then Von and Marshall and other players who are being paid millions to play a game they love should go play in Canada.

Forced on him? It's part of the CBA that he agreed to as a member of the NFLPA.

The tender for $2.553 mil quadruples his salary - when's the last time your employer quadrupled your pay?

And his choice was to sign or not play in the nfl, not really a choice imo. I would be pissed if my employer held me hostage after my current contract ran out at an amount of money way less than I should be making. Danny just got 12 million guaranteed and imo Marshall is better (Elways too apparantly). So for being better he gets 9 mil less in guaranteed money. Sorry, not right imo. He fulfilled the contract he did sign with the Broncos and he did it well. He did not sign a 1 yr contract for 2.5 million and he wouldnt, therefore yes it is being forced on him. That is what the tender does. I personally think Elway will sign both him and Von and they won't be under the tag this year, we will see. But regardless the situation is what it is.

I see your points...he's in a situation where the rules of the CBA and RFA put him at a salary less than what he could make as an UFA.

Its what the Players and the league have agreed on. If a time wanted they could have given up a 2nd rd pick and paid him. Next year he won't be a free agent and will be able to get a huge deal.

How it works:

If the restricted free agent accepts an offer sheet from a new club, his old club has "right of first refusal," a five-day period in which it may match the offer and retain him, or choose not to match the offer, in which case it may receive one or more draft picks for the upcoming draft from the player's new club. If an offer sheet is not executed, the player's rights revert to his old club the day after negotiations must end.

In 2007, a second-round tender offer was added, and after the 2011 lockout, the top tender was removed. The three tender amounts for 2013 are as follows:[2]

No problem buddy, I can understand Marshall being frustrated, but the league is set up the way it is alot of guys are underpaid or over paid if your good you usually end up getting $. DT for example was underpaid while he put up top 3 numbers, so did Julius Thomas now both guys are in my opinion overpaid, kind of equals things out to me.

Same here with seeing his frustration. I think he would get further if he would not air the issue in public so quickly. Maybe he felt like he had to - seems like possibility of holding out is a last resort. Then again we don't know the full picture so maybe he's been told there won't be a contract beyond the tender.

All Marshall needs to do is play well. Next year he will get paid. The market thus far has dictated that he is not worth a 2nd rounder...period. So it is on him to show he is worth one....How is this on the Broncos?

I agree with that. To be honest one, some or all of Brock, Jackson and Trevathan will likely be seen as overpaid players on their respective teams. As Elway has proven time again by bringing in complementary pieces on the team and keeping quality coaching player who have not put up great numbers elsewhere can do well here. Most if not all players who have let Denver to chase the money have not done nearly as well elsewhere...

Now I digress from the original thread.

Marshall can make 2.5-4 mil a season here and know that as a team nearly every year we can truly compete for a SB. Or he can move on - likely next season, chase that money, and take the risk that he lasts a year or two and then gets cut.
