Back injury lands DeMarcus Ware on NFI list

The Broncos will have linebacker Von Miller on the field at the start of training camp, but his partner at the other outside linebacker spot isn’t quite ready to go at this point.

DeMarcus Ware will be on the non-football injury list as camp gets underway as he continues to deal with a back injury that hampered him at times last season and kept him from practicing with the team during their offseason program. Ware can’t practice as long as he’s on the list, but General Manager John Elway said that the veteran was going to handled with care whether he was on the NFI list or not.

“We’ll continue to monitor what he’s done,” Elway said, via the Denver Post. “DeMarcus was somebody that was going to be very managed through the preseason anyway.”

Coach Gary Kubiak said that Ware’s moving in the right direction to be ready for the start of the regular season. Shane Ray and Shaq Barrett gives the Broncos options of players to match with Miller until Ware is back and options to limit Ware’s workload down the road.

You can't help but love the guy but, with his persistent back problems, you have to wonder how many games he's going to miss this season even as a third-down player.

It's doubtful he will be here next year.

We held him out a lot in 2015

We need him 110% come December and I am not really worried if we rest him any time sooner to make sure he is tearing things up just before the playoffs
Time to build on the win and grow the team from some solid play higher level of play

Yup, and it was said when he signed his new contract that his role would change anyway knowing he had this back issue. He was re-signed for his leadership as much as his play.

I expected him to miss some time this season, but am concerned that he's already starting out behind the 8 ball. Really hope he heals up to playing condition soon and we do whatever is necessary to keep him as healthy as possible throughout the year. Von is much more effective when our Masters of Disaster bookends are both on the field

» The Broncos kicked off their title defense with their first day of training camp in Englewood, Colo. Linebacker DeMarcus Ware, currently on the non-football injury list with a balky back, is expected to be cleared to practice on Friday, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

Ware is on "half-pay" with the Contract he signed, so I'm guessing he's on 1/2 the Training Camp work load, as well.

When Kubiak was our OC for our last title defense season a lot of vetern players were on 1/2 Training Camp and 1/2 Practices

Kubiak has even stated he learned in Baltimore from Harbaugh how crucial it is to not overwork your vets.
