National Football League Important Dates for 2017

As every year ends, I look forward to some of the major offseason events. This link details specifics of what is happening in the league, right from January 1. For sake of time and space, if I had to choose 4 key dates, ones that will be significant to our Broncos and the rest of the league, they would be:

Feb. 15 - Begin Designation of Franchise Players (not as big as the following dates, but initially sets the table for one key aspect of the roster)

Feb. 28 to March 6 - Scouting Combine

March 9 - Free Agency Begins

April 27 to 29 - The Draft

Plenty more of course!

This is a 12 month a year league, and just like money, the NFL never sleeps. And I really get pumped each year, once the Lombardi is rewarded to The Champs, knowing that significant activity will soon follow, and in this case, hopefully find us the right combination of players to get back to our championship ways!!:lombardi:

No idea who's contract is even up, just meant that 2017 is Franchise Tag free! Is there anyone of note up in 2018? Are there several?

You might want to add the last day Romo could be traded without the Cowboys paying him the next big chunk. That is the only drama we'll be hearing every week until that deadline is over.

Oh man that's gonna be reminiscent of the Colin Kaepernick talk all off-season last year.

I hope John Elway comes out in squashes any and all of those rumors assuming that he does not fit into the Broncos plans.

This Saturday is East/West Shrine game. And next weekend is the Senior Bowl as well.

I'd imagine that Webster would not qualify as even close to a top five player at his position. So he should not be tagged to be paid as such. Even if it was for one year.

Yes, the franchise tag is not likely too exciting hereabouts, other than for the players that other teams will deny us from reaching out to OR conversely, will release for us to check out. But that 2 month period from end of February to end of April is jam packed with information and excitement! And even prior to that.....because I am not a college expert, BUT somewhere along the line, with all the reports and reviews from the experts, I soon become pretty knowledgeable in what turns out to be a crash course of the who's who of college players. Not nearly as deep as many of you, but I really enjoy the annual education I receive, as the draft draws near.

I wonder how fragile Romo really is. I recall thinking that PM had no business playing any more after those surgeries and he did pretty well with the Broncos.

Man, I'm excited for Free Agency. I have this feeling that we're going to make a big splash this offseason, signing guys who will make a big impact on our team, kinda like our glorious FA haul from 2014. We have a lot of cap space this year to pull it off!

Roby won't get it next year, Denver can choose to exercise the 5th year option on him (which needs to be done by this summer but isn't guaranteed until the league year in 2018) which will lock him in for much cheaper than the franchise tag.
