  • Pat Bowlen's Health Declining

I would assume that Mr. Bowlen will not be with us much longer. It would have been nice if he had been inducted into the Hall of Fame long before reaching this point.

My brother told me about this this morning. I agree it's a disgrace he isn't already in the HOF. Maybe this will ignite the charge to do right by him at next years selections.

An update from the same article:

UPDATE 3:59 p.m. ET: Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth disputes the perception that Mr. Bowlen is in dramatically failing health. “Mr. Bowlen is resting very comfortably at home as he receives care for Alzheimer’s disease,” Smyth said in a statement to PFT. “Joe Ellis visited with him just this past week. He’s doing fine.”
      I hope he's doing well.

I thought he was going to be inducted last year. It would be nice if it came soon.

Kind of makes my blood boil. But, I'm hoping he gets in this year.

Put that in the "how the heck did that happen" file.

When do the Bronco's get any praise.l It has been a uphill battle to get any respect as most writers on the east coast, west coast, or Chicago are biased. Denver has many players that have had better careers than others.? NOT FAIR.

Next year is too late! The Hall of Fame Selection Committee has dishonored the sport. Broncos Country should consider something more drastic. A boycott of the Hall? I don’t know. But years of being respectful disappoinment has done nothing.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has always neglected and disrespected the Denver Broncos.

Respectfully to Mr. Bowlen, let's not turn this thread in to a HOF discussion and / or complaint, especially since the HOF will never be the standard by which he is measured to his family, team, and fans.

What are your favorite stories about him?

                          I like this one:

                          Mike Shanahan
Broncos offensive coordinator, 1984-87; offensive assistant, 1990-91; head coach, 1995-2008

“After we had our parade downtown (following Super Bowl XXXII), we had dinner over at the Denver Chophouse. All the players went over there and the coaches, and we just had a fantastic evening.

“But Pat told me after we got there, he says, ‘Hey, Mike, the president is going to call me.’ At the time, it was Bill Clinton. He said, ‘He’s going to call at about 5 p.m.’ And I told him, ‘Great, that’s fantastic.’ He said: ‘But I’m not going to be there. I want you to talk to him.’ I said: ‘What do you mean? Why do you want me to talk to him?’ He said, ‘Well, I’m going to go get my workout in.’ It just shows you the type of guy that he was. He was very disciplined. Just an unbelievable owner that you would love to work for, and he did all the little things that gave you a chance to win that people don’t realize.”

I used to see Mr. Bowlen jogging, with the sweat pouring off of him, on the East Quincy bike path between University and Holly, many years ago. And if I remember correctly, didn't Bowlen and various other people (Jim Turner?) used to ride their bikes from the old Broncos facility just off of I-25 and 56th Avenue up to Greeley when the Broncos Training Camp was up there?

I don't want to bury Pat Bowlen before his time, but I have had family members who have sufffered from Alzhiemers and Dementia, and it's a complete nightmare for the patient AND the family. I really feel for his poor family having to see this.

I think some topics of discussion that you don't see a lot on this Board up to now would include a little more information about the Trust he set up to run the Broncos, and whether or not the Broncos will be put up for Sale. And if they are For Sale, is it possible that multiple Investors, like Elway, could take the Franchise Public, similar to Green Bay, where the Fans could participate in the Ownership? And if that happens, what will Elway's future be with the Franchise?
