    Finally...

    We show interest in Marques Douglas. Probably the most underrated and unknown DE on the market who has been bantered about off and on around the message board. It is said that he and Jasper are the two on the Broncos radar right now other than C. Brown.

    Douglas would be a great addition, especially in the 3-4 where he is apt to free up space for LB's by taking on additional blockers. With the speed of our LB's, Douglas would be an ideal fit at DE. I am very surprised with all the teams making the switch to the 3-4 this year that Douglas has not yet been signed. I still think he'll end up in Cleveland, but I'm thankful the Broncos are finally showing some interest.

    Sweetness, I wanted Marques Douglas or Chike Okeafor, and Okeafor was taken. I would love to have Marques. Ed Jasper is a DT isn't he?

      Yeah, Jasper's a DT, but I hope we pass. He was contemplating retirement and the falcons didn't even try to bring him back. Enough with Coleman and Elliss, we don't need another fill in on the brink of retirement.

          I love when there are articles like this...

          Especially when the things I've been arguing the last few months are laid out just as I argued them. I wonder where all those "our D-line was fine" posters are now, now that the front office is admitting we didn't even "have" a D-line last season....

          Although the Broncos ranked fourth in the NFL in yards allowed in 2004, a lack of a pass rush by the defensive line was an obvious handicap, well illustrated in Denver's 49-24 blowout loss at Indianapolis when it surrendered 529 yards of offense. Shortly after that loss, a group of five NFL scouts and personnel men were asked by The Denver Post to assess the Broncos. All five said the Broncos' front four - especially without Pryce - was the team's weak link.

              Im talking about the crap I've gotten from last draft to now, over a year. I've been getting bashed for this stance almost daily. It's nice to have the GM validate my opinion. A year ago, there were not alot of folks arguing the importance of the D-line to the Broncos winning so everyone liked to jump on me. Since last season though, more and more people have taken up the good fight. I find that encouraging.

              Obviously not everyone has eyes because a large portion of this board still thinks the D-line is not important or that our D-line was fine. The best is when the "D-line didnt lose the Colts game" crowd starts their arguing.

                Well, I'll just disagree with you on your perception....

                Everybody knew that the Dline needed help, but after losing Gold at the last minute, and having only some free agent pick-ups to replace him with, the LB position became a higher priority at the time.
                And the pickups of the vet Dlinemen, along with TP, had everybody thinking they'd be good ENOUGH to get the job done. Who knew TP would get hurt?
                Plus, the wr's need depth, badly.....wouldn't you agree?
                And they had the Dlinemen from the previous year's draft waiting in the wings.....only to NOT be what they were thought to have been.

                You can preach to the choir all you want.....but if the preacher is talking OVER you, who's gonna hear ya?

                  Actually, Nick Ferguson made that comment, but that just shows that it was a central feeling of the players and coaches.

                  That said, I'd imagine that our line will be vastly improved over last year's, IF we add one of the two ends (Brown or Douglas) and draft a defensive lineman in one of the first two rounds. In fact, if we could nab both Douglas and Brown, Brown could move to right end, shed 10 lbs. in the off-season, and recommit himself. This would allow Denver to take the best available player at 25, a strategy that befits any team with stability and freedom to increase optimum talent. Or, should Travis Johnson fall, he would complete the line with Warren, Douglas, Brown and Johnson. A completely new front four (or three) really wouldn't hurt.

                    I realized our d-line was at the very least going to lack depth. Had Pryce been healthy our d-line might have been more effective. I still say given the circumstances at the time drafting Williams was the right move to make since Tommy Harris the one DT I know we were interested in had already been taken.

                      Ideally I would like to see the team sign both Marques Douglas and Courtney Brown, but realistically I know we might only end up with one.

                      I like the idea of getting C. Brown, but with the recent revelation that management is actually looking at Marques Douglas, I would rather see us sign Douglas. We can get our pass rush specialist in the Draft and let Douglas be our consisent presence at LDE.

                      *side note*
                      I'm kind of disturbed that the article lists Nick Ferguson as a SS. Lynch needs to moved to SS and if necessary I think us Bronco fans should start a rally to get this done. We won't have a succesful Defense with Lynch as our FS, period.

                          Nick Ferguson has real potential to be a playmaker but only at FREE safety, and John Lynch is one of the top 3 STRONG safeties in the league. I could see Shanny playing Lynch at Free when kennoy was around but there will most definitely be a change with Nick Ferguson starting, don't even worry about it.
