  • Abraham Update

(John Clayton) said that the team leading in the Abe sweepstakes is the Lions who at #9 view him as a pass rushing addition that have needed for years. Also the Lions are one of the handful of teams who can afford Abe. He also said the Jets would likely have to give up a draft choice in addition to Abe, likely a third rounder.

--Matt Millen is officially crazy. Giving up a TOP TEN pick for Abraham and the Jet's third...Wow. If that's what we're competing with, then I want Shanny and Co. to lay off this one. Keep that pick and pickup Wimbley or somethin' like that.

I agree...I like the idea of getting Abraham but lets be honest, he isnt worth a top 10 pick in this draft, even with the 4th pick in the 3rd attached to him.

Abraham has also stated that he wanted to play for a SB caliber franchize, which I personally dont count Detroit as atm.

At least Millen is not going after a WR this time.

But wait, if they get something they have needed for three years Millen might draft a WR with their first pick again.

Yea, they're lined up pretty good if they want more WR's. Demetrius Williams in the second, Martin Nance in the third, etc. Complete restock of the WR corp, good stuff...

We'll see, it could be a leverage piece by the Jets or Abraham's agent to get more interest in bidding. Normally, I'd say the Lions are crazy, but Millen has proven time and time again to be the most incompetent GM in modern sports, period. The biggest difference in Millen and Al Davis is that it's Davis' money and franchise anyways...

This makes sense to the extent that Rod Maranelli would like his Simeon Rice, because he's a trenches "tough guy" (one of many bad coaching hires this year, byt the way.) I can see Denver trading a low first because they are just a few pieces away, but for a team starting over once again, trading a top ten pick is downright rediculous. I hope Lions fans burn Ford Field down if this goes through.

As for the Broncos, if this is legit, DON'T enter any further in the bidding war. Pick 29 is a lot as it is.

We always have the possibility Abraham refuses to report or play for Detroit, privately, not publicly, which happens more than we all think.

              Next up: Kalimba Edwards...

Heres what the Lions should do

I think the Lions should trade Kevin Jones for Joe Jurevicius and line him up in the backfield. Then they should trade us Cory Schlesinger(because hes a bad ass) for Todd Devoe and line him up at FB. Then they should pick up Antwan Randle El in FA and let him be QB. Then completely restock the OL with the WR's they draft this year. This way Matt Millen will have nothing but WR's on the field all the time.
I think this is what he really wants to do.

                What a dumb ass.

                  They probably would too...

Good point about Edwards. It's impractical that Detroit would bring back Kalimba if they get Abe, basically.

Turning into the Deadskins seems like.

Can Schleshi dance like Kyle Johnson? I dont think so.

                        Meh...Lions can keep em'.

you must not watch hockey. mike milbury is the most incompetent GM in modern sports.

as for kalimba, anyone have any educated guesses on what he might sign for? he may not be abraham, but if the lions did make this stupid trade, holding on to our #29 and saving $$$ by signing edwards rather than abe isnt too bad an option. especially if we then pick a pass rusher in the first round.

Sheesh if the Lions are dumb enough to do that then they can have him. I still would like to see a big pick up this off season, but it sucks being over the cap.
