Lions | Bradford signed to four-year deal
    Mon, 13 Mar 2006 12:22:21 -0800

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the Detroit Lions have signed free agent WR Corey Bradford (Texans) to a four-year, $7.4 million contract that includes a $2 million signing bonus.

Ok, first off, let me get this off my chest. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Better...

Anyways, they didn't give Bradford this deal to be the 4th receiver. Sounds like Charles Rogers is on his way out...

No, Matt Millen refuses to deal with Denver...

Well, whoopdedoo, Detroit gets a Wideout... I kinda feel stupid for saying this, but them making a move to obtain another wide receiver still surprises me!!! What are they trying to do, eventually run a 6 WR set (all starters) with a QB and 5 guys on the line?! I don't possibly see how this helps Detroit's struggling franchise for the future, especially if they would keep Rogers. I guess it'll free up some cap room, but does anybody else agree with me that they can just throw a cheaper WR in there and focus on another position? This could possibly be a position that they need to fill, like any of them except halfback and receiver
I'm officially eating crow. I support McDaniels.

Wishing for Jared Odrick in 2009.

Cory Bradford was brought in for one reason....speed. He's a burner...the idea is for him to clear the underneath for Williams and Williams. I would touch Rogers for anything but the league minimum. He hasn't had a complete season since entering the league. If you're going to drop money, might as well get a top tier WR.

pocket aces are goood but can be beat by a flush or a straight .. or heck even a three of a kind

It matters because it most likely forces Rogers out of town...

Are you kidding???? This is Matt Millen we're talking about. Rogers signed for $40 million. Million for 6 years....Millen can't hand him his hat just for the fun of it....he's a cap nightmare. Signing Bradford for depth and at 7.4 million is a steal. Bradford is a Terry Glenn....he's an old veteran receiver....probably brought in to do a Jerry Rice and help nurture the Williams twins and Vines and Rogers. Rogers may have fallen out of favor because of legal troubles and injury but his cap # is grotesque and they can't unload him unless another team has that much faith in a Detroit player Rogers is just another first round bust who's overpaid and too expensive too unload.

We've got to get a receiver somehow IMO before the draft, and if so, here would be my priority list.

                          Javon Walker
                          Terrell Owens
                          Eric Moulds
                          Charles Rogers

I'd include David Givens, but I do not think he's worth the 5 mill per year he is asking for.

However, I don't know what Owens will agree to either and Walker may be tough to grab because he'll involve compensation.

I believe more than "big" contract Javon wants loyalty over the long term that is fair. I think that could be worked out without big cap hits this year for him and I also still believe a good deal would be to look at trading D.J. straight up for Walker. It's much easier to find a strong side backer in the upcoming draft than it is to find a WR of Walker's calibur.

Moulds might end up being the best option financially, but he's not in that much different of a situation than Rod, just a couple years younger I believe.

So in the end, I'd love to explore a deal with Green Bay. Who knows what ol' Shanny is cooking up under the table.

Whoa!!!!! Don't sell Walker that much....the guy blew is ACL out....no telling what he'll come back like....Can't justify spending big $ and incentives for a WR under contract coming off injury. TO is a bigger playmaker than Walker....and both come with baggage...albeit TO has more...they both bring Rosenjerk to the table with them too. I'm not sold on any of the FA WR except TO but his personality scares the hell out of me.

well... TO is certainly the bigger playmaker, but Javon is significantly younger and if his knee is right, is just the kind of playmaker we need to add for the long haul and a much better long term investment than is T.O.

Saying that, I'm just fine with T.O., just as long as we acquire an offensive playmaker who can open up the offense. In fact, if it takes it to get it done, I'd be fine with Shanny offering up a 6th round pick to the Eagles and restructuring T.O.'s current contract to keep him from hitting the market.

But, if we could have either one, looking at the baggage for each and their long term future, I'd prefer Walker but would be happy with the addition of either one.
