  • Why do you guys want a RB in the 1st round?

Mike... it's simple... He can turn any talent into a star (at least the ones he is confident with). Which of these players were drafted in the first round?

    T. Davis
    O. Gary
    M. Anderson
    C. Portis
    T. Bell

NONE... Mike, draft someone later on in the later rounds... Use the early picks for positions (like RB) you can't make anyone out of stars. Mike can make any back a star and he should use a 3rd round+ on a RB. Im confident he can make another star.

I say Chad Jackson first then M Kiawanuka with 29.
Although I would not mind LenDale White either. I think he would be a stud here.

Yeah but think of a player that doesn't even need the system to be good in the Broncos offense!

We got lucky with Terell Davis and Portis. The other 3? yeah they had success but not an elite playmaker. As was said earlier we can make an average back a good RB. What would happen if we picked up a great RB like a Tomlinson. Can you imagine how much yards or how successful LT would do with our line? If we can make Olandis Gary rush for 1000+ yards what do you think we can do with someone who is way more talented.

We all saw what TD gave us and CP gave us. Those 2 are STEALS. Things that dont happen often. Every other RB we have picked up were not great. They were ok by hhitting the 1000 yard mark. I want a player who can easily reach the 1500 yard mark or make a run for 2000. We need a Running attack like that as we cant rely on jake to throw the ball 40 times a game.

Yeah it's good to just plug anyone in the backfield and have them run for 1000 yards, but can you imagine us with a RB that can do 1500-2000 yards? That's why I say try and go for a RB in the first round. Can you imagine having the next LArry Johnson or LT or Edge on your team? The possiblities are endless with what this back can do.

we've got 15 and 22 (we moved up from 29 to get that number 15 spot )

I still believe that Bell can be a big star...but at number 15, if they've got a shot at a potential super back like Laurence Maroney or LenDale White it would be hard to understand why they wouldn't grab one of them.
At the 22 spot, a top reciever should still be around where we could take Santonio Holmes, Chad Jackson, Sinorice Moss, or even tight end Vernon Davis who might even be a better reciever than the others but I think the Broncs are high on last year's rookie Wesley Duke, so that might not be an option.
I think we could shore up the lines and safety positions with free agents and later picks.

I agree with the above post. If Denver can do good with a RB from the later rounds Imagine what they could do with one from the first round? They have two picks this year so why not get a young fresh RB and a TE( I personally think their gunning for that TE Vernon Davis)

You're preaching to the converted man... Notice the other 4-5 threads saying that we shouldn't draft a RB in the 1st round. I've been scolding anyone who mentions LenDale White. Your theory is sound, we should invest our picks in other areas of need.

I know M. Shanahan didnt turn Terrell Davis into a star RB, he had the talent there already. He struggled to fit in at Georgia, His head coach really didnt like him at Georgia either. He was injured alot during college and him having migraines alot didn't help either. That would probably explain why he was drafted in the 6th round (196th pick).

I forgot to add, once during his college season he was injured and the head coach told him to play while he was injured which only made matters worse. WHICH would also explain why he didnt have alot of yards most of his years in college besides his near 900 yard year before.

Terrell wasn't even a starter a UGA. He ended up having to block for the likes of Garrison Hearst.

Im just trying to say Shanny didnt help him much, because Terrell already had the talent with himself.

Of all the listed only two truly changed the dynamics of our team. One more so than the other. I like TD and Portis. I think a game changing RB will do wonders for our offense, especially with our weak WR corp. And an addition of a dangerous TE can help as well. Look at San Diego with there schemes, the dangerous RB and TE can be effective and it also frees up the WR's.

I know, I know, a DE is an area of concern. But I said it before and I'll say it again, there are plenty of great DE's in this draft, but only 3 or maybe 4 franchise backs. Besides we have two picks in the first, what do you really want to waste both on DE's?

But to say that Shanny had nothing to do with his success.....that's just one person's opine, isn't it.
