        Lelie wants out?
<Apr. 20> Lelie is still unhappy about Denver's flirtation with then-free agent Terrell Owens and has been absent at the team's off-season strength and conditioning program, the Rocky Mountain News reports.
Lelie, who is entering the final year of his contract, is forgoing a $100,000 bonus by staying away after being a regular participant since joining the Broncos as a first-round pick in 2002. He could play the final year of his contract or be dangled as trade bait.

        Broncos eyeing Holmes
<Apr. 19> The Broncos trade of the 22nd pick in the first round to the 49ers shows that Mike Shanahan wants to deal with volume on offense instead of isolating on one top player, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports.
What this trade does is put them in position to take a wide receiver, possibly Santonio Holmes at No. 15, and take a running back and a pass-catching tight end in the second round.

There is a need for the Broncos to come up with a wide receiver in the first day of the draft. Former first-round pick Ashley Lelie isn?t training with the team this offseason and is telling friends he wants a trade.

The Broncos have interest in trading for wide receiver Jevon Walker, who wants out of Green Bay. The problem is the Packers have not shown any indication of letting Walker out of Green Bay.

        Bloom experiencing happy returns
<Apr. 21> Even though he hasn't played football the past two years, the former Olympics moguls skier is getting late interest, principally because of his return skills, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports.
Virtually every team that has visited with Bloom in recent weeks has a glaring need for a return specialist. Bloom is an explosive, north-south return guy, a player who gets the ball and is very decisive in hitting the seam. He might eventually develop into a No. 3 slot receiver, but his biggest value now is as a return man.

Lelie is not going to be a Bronco in 2006

49ers | Team rejected trade involving Lelie

                    Sat, 22 Apr 2006 12:02:42 -0700

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers rejected a trade with the Denver Broncos that involved Broncos WR Ashley Lelie. The Broncos were shopping Lelie for a second-round pick. 49ers vice president of player personnel Scot McCloughan said, "He does have some talent. He's more of a vertical guy, outside the numbers, and can stretch the field, but we had some issues with other things. (I'm) not saying he wouldn't fit in, but ... what kind of football player are we going to have when it's said and done?" He said the team would be interested if the Broncos' asking price drops dramatically.

I think other teams are figuring out what the Broncos know. And that is that while Lelie is talented, he is pretty much a one-trick pony. However, if his value is worth a 3rd, then that may be enough to move the 15th up into the end of the top ten somewhere.
"I've always thought that Raider fans in Oakland were not so much fans as they were 50,000 people out on a work-release program." - John Elway.

Like it or not Lelie, you have devalued yourself with too many drops and poor route running. Go back to "voluntary" practice and pray that the Broncos can use you as a third receiver this year.

This simply proves that other teams don't want Lelie! We're not talking about the Steelers here! This is the 4 win 49ers! Probably the WORST team in the NFL -- and even THEY don't want him!

HE's officially been labeled now as a BUST by NFL teams! (I.e. maybe they'll take a shot on getting him to produce IF the Broncos asking priced drops "dramatically" -- ie if Denver is basically giving him away! But they're not going to offer anything real for him, because they don't think much of him!)

Hey! As pointed out in another thread, how could we be asking for a second rounder from the 49ers? We already have it! I'm still doubting this whole thing!
