  • First rookie pick to contribute at his position.

After looking over the new draftees we got this weekend, I thought back to last year when many, including me, had doubts about our draft. Well, we all know now that our first three picks contributed quite a bit, two of them significantly.

That is even without a first round pick and a bust on the first day of the draft (Clarett).

So with that in mind, who is going to contribute this year?

Please use this as a guideline:

    1. Don't include Walker- too easy and not a rookie.
    2. Don't include Special Teams- again, too easy- most rookies at skill positions already qualify.
    3. I suppose you can use the undrafted free agents, but I won't because I haven't studied them yet.

Here are my choices and why:

    1. Elvis Dumerville / DE- Not only is he a need with little depth, he plays a position,
pash rushing specialist & nickel pash rusher, that he can learn the system quickly. With his size at 5-11, he won't start soon, if ever, but if he can get to the QB, he'll play.

    2. Scheffler / TE- Partially because this is another great need, and partially because I just have a feeling about this guy. He probably won't be a starter until he learns to block, but there is no reason he can't be a red-zone threat this year.

    3. Eslinger / C- This is my dark horse because he doesn't have a big transition between his college zone blocking and the Broncos scheme. On the other hand, this might be a bad thing if he plays because that would mean something happened to Nalen or Hamilton.

That's all. It's possible that the new WR's get action, but realistically not probable. They are likely destined for ST's the first year. Kuper was a good pick, but a bit of a project and will probably be a PS player. Lets face it, if Cutler is playing this year, something real bad happened to Plummer, I would rather not think about that. I think Cutler is at least 2 years away from contributing.

    What do you think?

i would say dixon or whatever his name is for returns, so we can keep dwil at cb, but if special teams dont count then i say

elvis- Lets face it, for the broncos-he will be the KING!
brandon marshall- yeah they need time to get into things but, if lelie is gone that leaves rod, walker, terrel, and our back ups. So if the hype on him is correct with size and speed i choose him
    So far:
    FA- Melvin Gordon. Brandon Scherff
    1. Kenneth Murray LB; 2. Shenault WR; 2B. Biadazz Center, 3. OT

      depends

If Lelie leaves then I think Marshall has a good chance to participate. If not then Elvis will directly contribute more this season than any other draftee.

If Lelie is gone this year, then the WR's chances just went up significantly. But they still would have to have a training camp similar to what Watts had in his rookie year even to sniff the field. I'm thinking Terrel is our 3rd and the usual suspects we already have bring up the rear. But who knows? Maybe Marshall or Hixon catches fire at camp.

Mike Bell. Look at the history, there has been MANY rookies to come in and contribute that year under Shanahan. TD, Olandis, Mike, Portis, Tatum(to an extent). I expect for him to get some reps and really show how right he is for this system!!!

            Other than him, Dominek Hixon.

I don't know much about Bell, but I'll buy your arguement. RB rookies have great success in our system. By the way, I did read that he may have a fumbling problem. You know that he won't play if he doesn't fix that. What's your take on that perception?

As far as Dixon goes, tell me why, did you follow him in college? Remember, ST's doesn't count.

                Brandon Marshall.

He will be put into our red zone packages, thrown up a fade, jumps up, touchdown.

                  the impacts will be,

Sheffler, Marshall, and Dumervill. These guys really have a huge upside of potential, and will contribute in some sort of way this season.

And if Dayne, bell, cobbs, sapp, miree, all go down to injury. Mike Bell will be the biggest impact.

                  big ups to snk16.

                    Brandon Marshall-

                    1) Lelie will be gone
                    2) So much attention on Walker and Smith
                    3) He might be able to make some plays before defences figure out that a SS can guard him.
                    4) Hixon i dont think will develope for a while as a WR
                    5) Sheffler is always a possibility but he might not start with the blocking issue
                    6) and Everyones favorite Elvis Dumervile has tiny arms and will end up engulfed in the big O linemen. He might make a few sack attempts but even QB's might be a lil tougher for him to take down. He may have speed but tackles in the NFL have great drop steps to stop the outside rush.

What the hell are you talking about GC... once again your verbal flatulence comes out...

He has a 6'8" wingspan and can bench 425.... you couldn't be more wrong.

I have to agree. Bell is so excited to be here that I think he'll work extra hard and if Ron and Tatum aren't careful, he'll take their job.
