Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

Eh, praise comes out of Dove Valley all the time. Moreso the media than anything else. Was nothing special to begin with and there was infact a reason why he was released from the Patriots and that wasn't because he was starter material.

Yikes, you don't pull any punches.
Anyway, here is a thread where we have been talking about him a little.
He apparently got off to a rough start in training camp, but based on reports we received from some members that attended, he started to show signs of life the week before the Detroit game. Then in Detroit, he led the team in rushing, although it was late in the game, so against mostly 3rd stringers.
Since Dayne's toe hurts, Cobbs should get another decent chunk of carries during the game on Saturday, as I would imagine the new guy Nash will.

The only thing that makes me feel comfort in the Broncos running game is Tatum Bell and the fact that we almost always have a 1,000 yard rusher. Pending the play this season, running back could be addressed early next year for the Broncos. Obviously, Shanahan's great deal of interest in Maroney shows some sort of skepticism with the current crop we have at running back.

Oh, I agree with that. I have been singing that tune for some time now. Unless one of the Bell's or someone else REALLY surprises this year and can become a true number one, goto guy, I expect Shanahan to draft a RB early next year.

What happened to Cedric Cobbs? Has he been doing really bad? Did he get injured?
The coaches were praising him during the summer and now it seems as if he has disappeared
Well the fact that he hasn't had a stellar training camp and Mike Bell has came from being an undrafted rookie to being the starter spells out why Cobbs isn't the starter.
Dream has a point and that is if Cobbs was so good, why was he released from the Patriots? It's nothing to get down about if he doesn't turn out. I would say obviosuly Tatum and Mike Bell have the best shot at starting and whoever starts will likely be a 1,000 yard rusher.

I agree it's a long shot, but there are many players in this league that have been cut by one team, only to be successful with another. You don't have to go too far back in Bronco history and think of one of Denver's favorite players, Ed McCaffrey. He was cut by the Giants, before spending time in SF and then becoming successful in Denver.
So, I am not saying that Cobbs will be successful here, or anywhere else, but just because he is cut, shouldn't be an indication that he won't be.
It seems the biggest factor in his release was probably injuries, which also marred his college career. The year he was drafted, he was injured and couldn't participate in training camp. The following year, he on had three carries in one preseason game (the third one) and was released shortly after that. The Broncos immediately signed him to their practice squad.
So, at this point, nobody really knows what Cobbs can do, other than he impressed Shanahan enough that he mentioned his name quite often over the last 12 months when referring to RB depth.

"To begin with" he was regarded as a very talented back out of college that had some off the field issues. If he didn't have talent, the Patriots would not have taken him in the 4th round.
There are many players that have been let go by one team (for whatever reason) and succeeded with another team. Easy Ed, Cris Carter, Brett Farve...
I'm not saying he's going to start in Denver or even make the team, but please provide better insight than "there's a reason he was released from the Patriots." That says nothing.

Ok, just because there was so much smoke in the car and billowing out the windows that Cobbs looked like he belonged in a Cheech and Chong movie, doesn't mean he inhaled!!

Denver should give them Cobbs in thanks for sending Herm Edwards to the Chefs.
