  • Anyone else sick of us picking up old worthless DL?

Chastize me if you will but how come we always seem to go for the old Browns who can't play (no shot at Cleveland intended... just simply stating that if they were good Cleveland would keep them) or OLD veterans who don't seem like they can produce anymore... Wilkonson is ok but he'd only be used on running downs if he can actually make it past training camp.

    Look at our DT's:

    Gerrard Warren
    Alvin McKinley
    Demetrin Veal
    Dan Wilkinson
    Antwon Burton
    Amon Gordon

    Now look at our DE's:

    Carlos Hall
    Elvis Dumervil
    Ebenezer Ekuban
    Kenny Peterson
    Kenard Lang
    John Engelberger

Now as I look at all these DL, these are my thoughts.

Warren played like a sissy last year, if he was hurt then he shouldn't have played because he didn't do much. I think that once he got paid he just quite working hard. Wilkonson is getting old and he is overweight and his production is down. McKinley doesn't look like much from his stats aquired the past few years. Burton and Gordon look to be backups at best and nothing more. Veal is a good rotational DT but not an everydown answer. Hall and Peterson look like backups or practice squad players at best or project players. Ekuban and Lang are not as productive for their price tag and they don't bring fear to anyone (ANYONE), they are not even consistant! Dumervil and Engelberger are good pass rushers with high motors but they can only really use speed as both are light and really only get pressure against weak OT's.

I like what Dumervil did as a rookie though and believe he will keep it up and get between 7 and 11 sacks.

I just don't see us upgrading the line like we should be... a bunch of supplemental or specialist (i.e. pass rushers) players together just doesn't make a productive line. We look like a Juggernaut forming but the defensive line is looking more disappointing that ever.

just my :2cents: What does everyone else think?

Hell yeah, I am sick of picking up useless Dliners. Of course, we add depth and such etc etc.... HOW MUCH DEPTH DO WE NEED? Not 6 DT and 6 DE in my opinion. I would think 4 per would be fine. Not to mention we don't have a real pass rusher. I think Elvis did ok, and would not mind seeing him start as the #2 DE.. but we NEED someone at DE to make a BIG difference. I just hope we get it with the draft.

Keep Dumervil and Engelberger as pass rush specialists and Ekuban as a run stopper and then draft Carriker, Crowder and Francis (2 of the three, not all of them) and for septh and security sign Peterson to the Practice squad.

Draft a DT and keep Veal and Warren (since we have so much money tied up in him) and one of the recently aquired DT's a rotational player then a young guy to the practice squad for security and depth.

My problem with McKinley is he just seems like one of those lazy old Browncos. I think a big question for me is where he plays for us. DE or DT. If it's DE then I have no doubt that we will trade up for Okoye. If it's DT then I have no doubt we will draft Carriker or Jarvis Moss. The problem is McKinley has had 9 sacks in HIS WHOLE CAREER playing at DE, we need someone who can get more than 9 sacks in a SEASON.

          Only time will tell.

          Am I disapointed?

          YES

But I will remain positive untill after the draft.

why do we keep going after the browns dline? everyone has been average or a bust. out of 31 other teams we only look at the browns for our salvation??? gosh, coyer must have been smoking a stogie with shanny on his porch one night drinking crazy horse and telling him how great the browns d line was.

no more lazy, broke, busted and disgusted lineman! :hammer:

I guess Im just mad that we can't even try to sign a young DT who has produced. I think our D-line is about as good as a high school D-line. Hopefully this won't back-fire and blow up in our face. Just give me someone who has produced please, please just draft DL in this draft.

Lang was good and I have no qualms with him.
The Browns are gone; I'm not a fan of the Impostors

The real Browns are in Baltimore, see?

                        And why is that?

I always liked Lang so there should be no surprise if I say that I had no issues w/ him.

Yeah, I'm tired of it aswell. But the only productive one out of the Browncos is Lang. He's the only one who is running at full motor all the time last year. He's a great leader for our D-Line.
