Broncos reporter Bill Williamson's NFL mock draft for the first round of April 28-29 draft. It will be updated periodically leading up to the draft.

    No. Team (Player, Pos., School)

    1. Oakland (JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU)

Al Davis has compared this gunslinger to John Elway. Russell will be difficult to bypass.

    2. Detroit (Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin)

Lions are likely to trade this pick, but Thomas likely will be the No. 2 choice.

    3. Cleveland (Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame)

Browns pick the hometown boy to sell tickets.

    4. Tampa Bay (Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech)

Buccaneers can't believe the best player in the draft is on the board.

    5. Arizona (Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson)

Cardinals could trade down, but they opt for the best pass rusher available.

    6. Washington (Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas)

Another team that wants to move down, but it needs a pass rusher.

    7. Minnesota (Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Ohio State)

Devastated Quinn is off the board, the Vikings address another huge need.

    8. Atlanta (Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma)

Falcons give Michael Vick some relief with the top back on the board.

    9. Miami (Levi Brown, OT, Penn State)

Dolphins find value at a need area.

    10. Houston (Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville)

Texans continue to feed their D-line with 19-year-old phenom.

    11. San Francisco (Patrick Willis, LB, Mississippi)

49ers take one of the up-and-comers in the draft to help inside.

    12. Buffalo (Alan Branch, DT, Michigan)

The New Mexico native earlier was considered a top-5 pick.

    13. St. Louis (Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida)

BCS championship game stars fill huge need for Rams.

    14. Carolina (LaRon Landry, S, LSU)

Panthers fill need and get a top-10 talent.

    15. Pittsburgh (Leon Hall, CB, Michigan)

First cornerback goes to Steelers as they try to reload.

    16. Green Bay (Marshawn Lynch, RB, California)

Dynamic back gives Favre a much-needed weapon.

    17. Jacksonville (Aaron Ross, CB, Texas)

Solid Jaguars take best available athlete.

    18. Cincinnati (Greg Olsen, TE, Miami)

Bengals made a dangerous offense even nastier.

    19. Tennessee (Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee)

Vince Young gets a fast, game-breaking weapon.

    20. N.Y. Giants (Michael Griffin, FS, Texas)

Giants take talented Longhorn for much-needed upgrade in the secondary.

    21. Denver (Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska)

High-motor player helps Broncos in their biggest area of need.

    22. Dallas (Ben Grubbs, OG, Auburn)

Solid Cowboys try to upgrade up front.

    23. Kansas City (Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh)

The Chiefs still have big needs in the secondary.

    24. New England (Reggie Nelson, S, Florida)

Patriots love hard-hitting safeties and Nelson qualifies.

    25. N.Y. Jets (Eric Wright, CB, UNLV)

Former USC player could be a steal.

    26. Philadelphia (Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU)

One of the biggest, strongest receivers in the draft. An intriguing prospect.

    27. New Orleans (Daymeion Hughes, CB, California)

Some teams are falling out of love with Hughes, but the Saints take a chance.

    28. New England (Lawrence Timmons, LB, Florida State)

Another standout who is falling. Could fit in well with Patriots.

    29. Baltimore (Ryan Kalil, C, USC)

Centers usually don't go this early, but Kalil can be special.

    30. San Diego (Jon Beason, LB, Miami)

The Chargers don't have many needs but they get a fine, young linebacker.

    31. Chicago (Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC)

Bears try to give themselves some offense with boom or bust Jarrett.

    32. Indianapolis (Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State)

As much as I want him to, I can't see Carriker falling to us at #21

This draft is too full of possible trades. Many teams are wanting to trade down and I don't know how many teams are wanting to trade up. The already really good teams wanting a game breaker will make the deals and the bad teams are gonna try to pick up a Ricky Williams type deal. I don't see any of these mock drafts even being close.

yeah i think thereis a few unlikely scenerios at this point on his board..

            7. Ted Ginn Jr. i just dont think he'll go that high im gonna say he is gonna go around late round 1

            8. Peterson i dont think he'll drop that far but who knows.

            14. that would be a steal if they could get landry at 14

            21. it would be highly unlikely

            22. i dont like ben grubbs that high probably 2 rounder IMO

23 Kansas City needs a Wideout in the worst way

            24. eric wright never heard of him.. could be a reach

The fact that you have never heard of Eric Wright probably shows how little you know about this years draft. He might be a reach in the 1st but that is only because he has off the field issues. He ran a 4.36 at the combine and I know Herm Edwards is in love with him (in a non-homosexual kind of way).

It's a good thing Jay Cutler was a proven winner in college. Oh wait, nevermind.

I while i might not know a whole lot about this years draft .. i can say that i do/did not pay attention to what is not a pressing need in denver htis year..and as far as him running a 4.36 that did not do a whole lot to impress me.. Guys in the NFL do it all the time.. just because he has speed means very little to me..but like i said i dont know a whole lot about Cb's in thsi years draft

                          I hope not.

We need a true pass rusher, not an all around type DE like Carriker, IMHO.

                              Updated Williamson Mock Draft

I find Williamson's updated Mock draft quite interesting:
                              No. Team (Player, Pos., School)

                              1. Oakland (JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU)

Al Davis wants the quarterback, so Al Davis gets him.

                              2. Detroit (Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech)

Lions will likely trade this pick, but they could use Johnson.

                              3. Cleveland (Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame)

Browns thrill fans by taking this local quarterback hero.

                              4. Tampa Bay (Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson)

May trade with Detroit and take Johnson while Lions would take Adams.

                              5. Arizona (Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin)

Cardinals get the steal of the draft and fill huge need.

                              6. Washington (Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville)

Redskins can't resist this rising 19-year-old star.

                              7. Minnesota (Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma)

Vikings go for the best available skill position player.

                              8. Atlanta (LaRon Landry, S, LSU)

Falcons overlook other needs and take big-time safety prospect.

                              9. Miami (Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Ohio State)

Dolphins love speed and they get plenty of it with this Buckeye playmaker.

                              10. Houston (Alan Branch, DT, Michigan)

The New Mexico native earlier was considered a top-5 pick.

                              11. San Francisco (Patrick Willis, LB, Mississippi)

49ers take one of the up-and-comers in the draft to help inside.

                              12. Buffalo (Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh)

First cornerback goes to Bills as they try to reload.

                              13. St. Louis (Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas)

Rams thrilled to see this player - some think he's a top-6 talent - on the board.

                              14. Carolina (Levi Brown, OT, Penn State)

Panthers find value at a need area.

                              15. Pittsburgh (Leon Hall, CB, Michigan)

Steelers fill big need in the secondary.

                              16. Green Bay (Marshawn Lynch, RB, California)

Dynamic back gives Favre a much-needed weapon.

                              17. Jacksonville (Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida)

BCS championship game stars could be a star.

                              18. Cincinnati (Greg Olsen, TE, Miami)

Bengals made a dangerous offense even nastier.

                              19. Tennessee (Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee)

Vince Young gets a fast, game-breaking weapon.

                              20. N.Y. Giants (Michael Griffin, FS, Texas)

Giants take talented Longhorn for much-needed upgrade in the secondary.

                              21. Denver (Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska)

High-motor player helps Broncos in their biggest area of need.

                              22. Dallas (Ben Grubbs, OG, Auburn)

Solid Cowboys try to upgrade up front.

                              23. Kansas City (Aaron Ross, CB, Texas)

Old Chiefs need to revamp defense.

                              24. New England (Reggie Nelson, S, Florida)
