  • Trading with Texans to move up to #2??

DENVER-HOUSTON TRADE A STEPPING STONE FOR BRONCOS?

A reader has helped us connect the dots regarding the reported trade talks between the Broncos and Texans, which would allow Denver to move from No. 21 to No. 10 in the 2007 draft.

Though the belief is that the Broncos are trying to get in position to draft linebacker Patrick Willis, defensive end Adam Carriker, or defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, it could be that the Broncos are planning to offer up the No. 10 overall pick to the Lions as an alternative to the offer that the Broncos reportedly have made in order to land receiver Calvin Johnson.

As we've explained, the Lions' primary concern regarding the Broncos' prior offer of a one, a two, and a three in 2007 and a one in 2008 is that Detroit would then be picking too low at No. 21 to get one of the guys they want.

But at No. 10 they might be able to get it done.

And it's believed that the Lions want linebacker Patrick Willis or defensive end Gaines Adams. So they come out of the draft with a player they covet, they pay the guy a lot less in the No. 10 slot, and they snare some extra picks.

The only problem is that, under the trade chart, the Broncos need to come up with 1,300 points through picks other than the No. 10 selection. Without a second-round pick (which would likely go to Houston as part of the move from No. 21 to No. 10), it might be hard for the Broncos to pull it off.

I know it's all rumor but depending on what they give up to the Texans, it could very well happen.

    Damn is it Saturday yet???

#1 Why are Texans trading out of the 10 spot where they have a good chance at
landing Adrian Peterson? If Peterson gets taken, the move could be
made after that... but then the Lions would have most likely already picked.
It would make no sense for the Texans to trade down and miss out on Peterson
following the year they passed on Bush.

#2 It'd cost you guys more to take the stepping stone, than just go straight for
      #2.

Texans have Ahman Green. I don't think RB is there biggest need right now.

Have you watched Ahman Green over the past 2 or 3 years?

Davis is a great back for the Texans, its too bad he is always hurt. Hes a real asset to GK down in Houston. No reason to get Peterson, though he will be a good back.

Im ready for the draft. Yesterday we had brings. Now the 10 spot. Lets just draft a end with the 21st pick!

they wouldn't have given him the contract they did if they didn't expect him to contribute. next years running back class is strong that this years, and green might just be a placeholder until they can get a great back next year.

i think the price won't be any higher, at least not much. we'll probably give the texans our 1st, 2nd, and late 3rd for #10, maybe another late rounder.. then give #10 and next years 1st to trade to #2 would be practically the same value involved in the original offer, but now the lions get #10, maybe they accept this time.

if the lions want willis, then they might go for it, but if they are interested in adams as they are said to be smitten with him, i think they won't bite.

if calvin johson isn't there at 2, then what? joe thomas??? cause i'd be 10 times happier giving up nothing and getting joe staley at 21. maybe gaines adams... idk
vote no on the trade up.

They dont have Davis anymore.. They have the Dayne Train and Green... Both of
which have struggled. Peterson is #1 on their list.

I doubt this is a stepping stone. I think if we were really after the #2 we'd work out a 3 way with Washington.

Agreed - this is for Willis or Carriker and Okoye if he's there. I buy into that logic.

In terms of draft chart Value we would have to give up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick this year along with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Round pick next year. If we moved into the 10th spot. Highly unlikely.
