It's funny how everybody thinks he's the next Gates, simply because he played basketball.
Really, people!
Teams are now looking for depth....on the cheap. Period.
When shanny took the chance on him, I was somewhat excited ....
....but not doing anything with his chance has turned him into nothing more than
camp fodder for the rest of the league.
Besides......Sheff is 4X the player [Duke] is......

Oh man...that was a good one.Power is not revealed by striking hard or often, but by striking true.
It is men who endure toil and dare danger that achieve glorious deeds, and it is a wonderful thing to live with courage and to die leaving behind an everlasting renown.

If you can get an agile guy who's 6'7, 35-45" vertical, and can catch. That is a lethal weapon around the goal line, and if a guy has speed and learns to go downfield, he's a tough cover. Most safeties in the league can't handle a guy like that. That's why a lot of teams are intentionally going after former basketball players. They jump high, and can get position around the goal line. They already have good footwork, and agility.

Duke is a LONG-shot with the emphasis on LONG!
His own coach (who was Gates' coach) even said "of course Wesley was not nearly as developed as Gates was when he came into the league." That's saying a mouthful.
Gates was a freak. Every team saw that and sees Duke is a physically talented player and thinks "he could have that potential."
And he could. I could also win the lotto. I might not too. It's not the way to bet.
Wesley Duke -- even if he is completely healthy will have to first learn how to play TE in the NFL. And he wasn't remotely there yet. So, there's no way to tell that he'd ever even be a starter, let alone a star TE.sigpic
