Exactly. He was obviously cleared medically after his initial injury, because he played again last year. Then, they traded him to the Giants and he failed a physical and it is the first any of us heard about him being unable to pass a physical.

With luck he will be healthy enough to rejoin the team for the play offs even in a 3 month coaching deal he deserves a ring.

I don't think I would want to see him back playing football. You do not want to mess around with your neck. You can't get a neck replacement like you can a knee.

Good question. Maybe the fact he was cleared to play following the injury last year, and then he played in a game or two, the Broncos never had a doctor (possibly intentionally) check him out in the offseason.

Truly a shame; guess timing is everything. I'd like to see him return if he's healthy and remedy that lack, but only if he's healthy. I'd rather walk than have a SB Ring.

I think Al is going to succumb to the same fate that another one of our favorite LBs (John Mobley) did. Thats sitting out a season, hoping his neck gets well enough so that he may continue his football career. Unfortunately, I just don't see that being a realistic situation. Al was always one of my favorites on the team, since he had to be thrust into the starting role as a rookie. Good luck to Al.

Al will most definitely be missed, but I fear others are correct that he's done. He's had nine years at the center of an elite NFL teams D, and plenty of cash come his way as a result (not to mention a SB Ring). There's not a whole lot left for him to prove, so why would he risk a permanent crippling injury to for more? I'll miss him, and appreciate his accomplishments and contributions, but I don't want to see Al back so badly I'm willing to jeopardize his long term health, and I don't think anyone else does either. If he came back I have a feeling it would be to Denver, but I have a feeling he's not returning. So, Al, thanks for the memories, congrats on your achievements, get well soon and enjoy retirement; heaven knows you earned it.

Is there a possibility that if he is able to heal sufficiently that he could be signed back?

Not saying that either party would be interested in that, just wondering if it is something that might be not allowed for some reason or another.

I am wondering the same thing. I thought I saw an artilcle in which Shanny said Al was cleared. Obviously Al's condition is more serious than what was thought.
It would not be worth playing if he was at high risk of ending up paralyzed (although that could happen to any player on any given play).
