Damien Nash (29) played in three games last season for the Broncos, gaining 98 yards on 24 carries. (Getty Images / Doug Pensinger)Indianapolis - Tragedy struck the Broncos for the second time in less than two months Saturday when backup running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in St. Louis, his agent, David Canter, said late Saturday night. Nash was 24.

Nash, who was signed as a free agent in August, played in three games last season and had 24 carries for 98 yards. He started as a rookie in 2005 with Tennessee, which took him in the fifth round. He played in three games for the Titans.

Nash was from East St. Louis, Ill. He played two season at Missouri after starting at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 1, Darrent Williams was shot and killed while riding in a limousine after leaving a nightclub in Denver, hours after the Broncos' season ended. Police have not made any arrests in that case.

This is a sudden tragedy and I'm sorry to hear it. I thought that he was a big, strong bruising back that we could've found a spot for. I had hoped that we would've used him like we had used Mike Anderson to wear the defense down and then put Tatum in. Very sad news. I'll pray for his family and friends.

God I can't believe this. Damien Nash really did have the potential to be a bruising back. He had great size and great speed and agility.

                      Why does this always happen?

People die but so many big-name people are dying.

I hope the Broncos do the same for Nash as they did for Darrent.

Man, this is one sad offseason.

Hey who cares about his potential now?

Sad, sad news. Charity events were something that he should've been doing more of, and it looks like he was. He was getting his chance, turning around his NFL "life", then wham.

                              Sad news.
