  • Broncos set up fund for Darrent's children

Email I received from the Broncos a few minutes ago:

    Dear Carol,

The Darrent Williams Children’s Fund has been established at U.S. Bank – Denver.

The purpose of the fund is to benefit Darrent’s two children for future educational and health needs.

    Contributions can be sent to:

    Darrent Williams Children’s Fund
    c/o Denver Broncos
    13655 Broncos Parkway
    Englewood, CO 80112

Thanks to Bronco4Life and Medford Bronco for signature

Rest in Peace - Darrent (27) and Damien (29

Yes, this would be a good fund for me to contribute.

Carol (DN), check this piece I copied from an article:
Williams, who has two young children in the Fort Worth area, said last month that he wanted to return to his hometown in the offseason to talk to kids about violence. He also had recently spoken to Criss about establishing a free football camp for youth players in Fort Worth.

"He had great compassion," Criss said. "He always wanted to try to make sure people did the right thing. He wanted to be a good parent, a good father, a good example for his kids. He will be missed."

I'm challenging us, Bronco Nation, let's donate to this grieving family. No one in football deserves it more and now these children are put in finatial trouble because of a couple of bullets.
              RIP Darrent Williams

I would think that his kids will be well taken care of. If you are a NFL player you have to have insurance. I just dont get it? I am all for helping out but should you help someone that should be alright to begin with. Maybe I am looking at this all wrong and if his kids do need money then I will donate some. I only put aside so much every year for donations and I want it to go to people who need it the most. It is very sad that this happend and I feel realy bad about it but I would just like to know why his kids need money. I will say sorry in advance for anyone I may offended but before I contribute I would like to know.

                  Thanks
                  J.C.
Hillis will be the best full back in the league by the end of the year!!!!!!!!!

I know that the family is OK as well but they know have no main financial supporter for the rest of their childhood. Darrent could only make so much in the two years he had in the NFL. Sure, some people need the money more, but this is still a pretty good cause.

The Broncos are the ones who set up the fund. I can't imagine they would set it up if Darrent's kids would not need it.

I found the following - seems like it was thru 2004, but it at least will give you an idea.

Man I feel so bad for them. There isn't enough money in the world to replace a father.

This is the kind of response I got on this thread which I established within hours of the news.

I am happy the Bronco's organization has established this fund for the Williams children and happy I can contribute. I don't look at it as money. I look at it as a gesture of love and compassion which these children will someday grow up to understand and appreciate. Maybe they can grow up to be as generous, compassionate and giving as their father was.

I am HOPING they establish a REWARD in this case too, so I can have a personal part in the apprehension of the lowlife thugs who took him from all of us. This is NOT a totally altruistic gesture on my part. We ALL need to take a personal responsibility for the culture and society in which we live. We HAVE to get these gun toting punks off the street before they bust a cap in YOUR ass or mine! I'd do anything I could to see that is accomplished as SOON as possible.

Darrent's momma related that Darrent could not stand to see anyone in need and would give even when he didn't really HAVE it. This makes Darrent a man after my own heart and I would give what I COULD, even if it pinched me some. Luckily I CAN donate, at this time, without any real sacrifice on my part. If you CAN'T give anything without making painful cutbacks elsewhere, do not feel bad about it.

It takes TONS of money to rear and educate a single child. I am SURE that Darrent didn't put aside ALL the money it will require to see to it that his children do not have to grow up the way HE did. I am glad the Bronco's have provided the opportunity to help out, and I don't give a DAMN how MUCH a life insurance policy, the player's union, the NFL, the Broncos organization or his team mates contribute. These children have lost their FATHER. There isn't enough money in the whole world to make up for THAT.

                              I agree.
This borders on the absurd and the more I think about it, the more it irritates me.

The NFL and the Denver Broncos have enjoyed great financial success because of our passion and loyalty and I find it highly inappropriate that the Broncos would ask us, the fans, to donate money to care for Darrent's children.

I liked Darrent and it's a darn shame he died, but I don't feel that it is my duty to ensure that his kids are set for life. He only played two years but I'm sure he made at least a million dollars, which should be enough to take care of two kids up until the age of 18, and if it isn't, then maybe all the MULTIMILLIONAIRES and BILLIONAIRES in the NFL should step up and help out.
