  • I Attended the Servie Today...

I was at the service today... Very touching as one would imagine. I almost lost it when Tatum broke down crying... Shanny's speech moved me, as did Al Wilson's... I loved the final DB breakdown... Bowlen saying they will win SuperBowl 42 to honor D-Willy. I felt comforted knowing all the extended Bronco family was there as one, in spirit or presence. There was a bonding with the whole community that took place. For the amount of people, cars, and everything I was amazed at how orderly and smoothly everything worked itself out. It touched everyone's heart seeing the whole team together... Even all the fans, like myself, represented with honor... There were no gaukers, and photo/autograph seekers. Just people paying their collective respect to number twenty-seven.

I got to the service about noon. parked and made my way to the church. I waited in line for about ten minutes and then was shuffled to a room adjacent to the main memorial room. There were a few hundred in these side rooms. After the service I noticed everyone shuffling out, but I had to get to work so I didn't stick around, nor did I think it was cool to do so. Just being in the same building was cathartic enough and helped, and I felt like it would be rude to stick around and gaze at my beloved Broncos. In honor of D-Willy, I arrived, worshipped and prayed and threw my voice up to heaven with all the rest, and then made my way back to the parking lot. Any other thoughts from people who were there?

You must have been in the same room I was!
I left my house at 11:30...but it took about 30 minutes to park once we got to the church, so I probably started walking from the parking lot to the church at about 12:10.
Then I saw the people walking by the casket for about 45 minutes in that overflow room. Then the pastor started the service...but I had to go a few minutes afterward.
I thought the actual service was starting at 12:00, but it didn't, and I had to be somewhere at 2:00, so we left.
I was able to hand my letter to one of the people there, and they said they would take it to Mrs. Williams.

And then when we were leaving the parking lot our car got stuck in the mud and we didn't get out until 2:30 PM. So I pretty much missed the funeral and was late for where I was going.

      ...

WOw... when I got to the Church, I was then waiting on line at the main front door... there were about twenty people in front of me... i was with my wife, wearing a brown leather jacket and black pants... the singing had just begun... The guy in front of me had a letter in his hand? Then, after about 10 minutes, they began to let us in the front door. I signed my name in the book, then went into the side room. Yes, they were singing worship for about 20 minutes and people were walking by the casket. When we went into the side room, I was sitting in the 5th row or so, in the middle. Some ushers entered and allowed the first two rows to leave and walk into main room. They apologized b/c they were closing the casket and noone else could view it. Then, I did notice a few people leave before the main service started!

        service for DWill

I really wanted to be there. I took off work yesterday hoping to get a flight, but the only flight available out of Richmond Virginia would have gotten me there after the service. I just saw footage of the service when Pat and John spoke on NBC after the Colts destroyed KC I couldn't stop crying then, so maybe I wasn't supposed to go out there alone. This is the most horrific event to occur and I hope they fry the guys that did this to us. RIP #27 you will be missed but NEVER forgotten. 2007 BELONGS TO THE BRONCOS IN MEMORY OF DARRENT. God bless everyone!

Hi E - it appears Channel 9 has the whole funeral on their site, broken down into 3 videos.

I'll have to check it out DN. I'm headed that way now.
But check out this video becauase there is someone we all know lighting candles at the end of the clip. Not me but someone who helped out several of us who couldn't make it.

Yes, I did see that on Channel 4 during their newscast, and I do remember them showing this guy, and saying that he was lighting 8 candles, 1 for himself, and 7 for those who could not make it. That is great.

                  Thank you.

I lay my "whys" before your Cross, in worship kneeling, mind to numb for thought, heart beyond all feeling. And worshipping, realize that I, knowing you, don't need a "why". Ruth Graham

I was with my wife... I think I saw you leave... where you with your brother and mom or something? I think I even parked next to you. I was in the red convertible... parked to the right of the church on the lawn in the yard to the adjacent church?
