  • Lynch & Bailey will have #27 on Helmets in Pro Bowl / Not Jerseys (Merged)

    - Had the Broncos' Pro Bowlers got their way, Darrent Williams would have been with them here in more than just spirit.

His No. 27 jersey would have been omnipresent in the AFC Pro Bowl secondary for the NFL all-star game that will be played Saturday at Aloha Stadium.

Broncos' safety John Lynch, cornerback Champ Bailey and middle linebacker Al Wilson formally petitioned the NFL to wear a No. 27 jersey during the Pro Bowl game in honor of Williams, their defensive teammate who was slain in the early hours of New Year's Day.

"As it turned out, 27 was Al Wilson's number at Tennessee so he was really stoked about it," Lynch said. "But the league put the kibosh on the idea and came back and said we could go with the decal."

Wilson wound up turning down his Pro Bowl appearance to have his thumb surgically repaired. Lynch and Bailey will play with a circle-shaped decal with the No. 27 placed on the back of their helmets.

The Broncos most likely will honor Williams next season with either the same helmet decal or a patch with his number and initials sewn on a uniform sleeve.

I think that is so wonderful!!!

it's definitely cool that they're going to wear the decals. . . . :thumb:

but i think the league comes off looking like a bunch of a**holes for not letting them wear the #27 jerseys. . . . c'mon ya bums, it's only the pro bowl-- what would it hurt??

I dont see why it's a problem that they wear the 27 jersey. I think it's a great gesture and am a bit disappointed that the NFL feels the way they do about it. Yea the decal is nice, but I would have enjoyed watching Lynch and Bailey wearing DWill's number more than a tiny decal that I cant see on TV.

They should wear it anyway and deal with it later like Plummer did with #40 and that whole decal fiasco.

They lost a close friend, the least the No Fun League can do for them is let them honor him in a game that DOESN'T MATTER with his jersey.

Or... maybe next year the whole team should just wear #27 the whole year...hahaha. Or at least for one game. That would be awesome. Not to mention hard to defend hehe.

Its probably been posted but i didnt see it:

I read this article this morning. I think its dumb that they have to petition to wear the 27 in the pro bowl. Yeah a Decal is nice, but the jersey would have been better. At least they get to remember Darrent

will anyone of those guys wear #27 on probowl? or has the league dismissed it?
it´s against league regulations for a LB to wear #27, but it´s okay for a safety or a CB

                              Once again SCREW the NFL

I am outraged that these idiots that run this league wont allow two players (Bailey & Lynch) to wear a #27 out of RESPECT to pay tribute to a fallen teammate. Last i saw its only the Pro Bowl the worst rated all star game in all of sports. And why wont you allow them to do so money on Jersey sales. If you morons were real businessman you would realize Pro Bowl Jerseys dont sale, and by allowing them to wear 27 you would sell alot more than you would with their normal number.
