Sure. Bobby goes to the trash can and cuts in; Johnny goes to the parked car on the left and stops; Frankie goes long to the corner; Billy is safety valve over by the right curb.

For years, Peyton has been on the field with 11 personnel formations in the gun. He has run no huddle transmitting plays via audible and/or hand signals. The volume in such an offense is limited by the ability to call plays at LOS.

The formations are almost always spread, and since he throws most of the time, defenses are playing pass. He probably had three run plays, one to the right, one to the middle and one to the left. They succeed because the D has five or six in the box.

His biggest genius was reading coverage. Basic reads like Middle Of the Field Open (MOFO), or Middle Of the Field Closed (MOFC) told him where to throw and not to throw.

He has been fooled by Cover 2 Robber, Zone Blitz and 3-3-5 looks which put pass defenders where they aren't normally expected to be.

I guarantee that opponents spent a lot of time studying the audio and video of his audibles and hand signals. A recent practice that has also proven effective is to show one look, and after the playclock has wound down and it looks like the snap is coming, switch the front and coverage.

Peyton Manning has been extremely successful in this style of offense.

I have several criticisms of this style. It isn't balanced and does not possess a well developed rushing attack which is needed for cold, wet weather sometimes encountered in the playoffs. Since it is all based on what Manning thinks he sees, there is no real plan or script, just concepts based on anticpated defensive fronts and coverages. Since the volume is limited, smart defenders can sometimes successfully anticipate and defend based on an educated guess involving several possibilities. The lack of a well developed rushing attack precludes series-based offense and greatly limits PAP.

IMO, his old style should be a package only used in situations like the two minute drill or when they want to keep a certain set of defenders on the field in order to wear them down and force them to use a TO. Otherwise, I think Manning should just huddle up to get everyone on the same page of Kubiak's script and execute it with the option of checking to another play only if certain previously scouted looks are seen and attacked according to a predetermined plan which could either be run/PAP or pass/Draw.
