That's what happened to the Colts. Peyton went down, they immediately became the worst team in the NFL. Get Luck the next year and were an instant playoff contender. That's how important the QB position is. That's why it is absolutely most important that we develop Lock and find out if he can be the guy. Because we know that's not Driskel and it's definitely not Bortles.

I remember and I agree on the importance of the QB position. However, you still want to see a team that has some depth and ingenuity. Peyton Manning is an all-time great and to hope we get the next one is probably unrealistic. I’m rooting for Lock. It would help if we can protect him more going forward.

I present to you the 49ers who are in the exact same situation and maybe even more dire. They walloped the Giants today. Keep in mind they are being coached by a guy we could of had in Denver...not to mention he’s the son of the most winningest coach in Broncos history! I don’t want to dwell on the past but you have to wonder what the Broncos (Elway/Ellis) were thinking. Shanny had the much stronger resume, coming off a super bowl appearance, clear ties to Denver, etc....and they go with VJ, the one year DC in Miami��*♂️. Sorry, I’m getting off topic...but look at what the 49ers did today without Garappalo, Kittle, and Bosa.

No...they weren’t, but who knows if Broncos had hired a different head coach in 2016. I was pointing out one of the many glaring mistakes the front office has made since Manning’s departure. The past is what has got us to this point. Now, are we closer to the 49ers who can overcome adversity or are we closer to the terrible team that was walloped?

We’re here because of the continuous changes, mistakes, bad drafting, etc. Now we have a new OC (again), bunch of rookies, and a team that lacks depth. We can’t blame everything on injuries to 3 players. The team is bad. It is what it is at this point. I know...we need to give it time, have Lock come back, etc....but it’s tough. Losses like this where you see no life out of the team are tough.

You also have to look at who they lost. Kittle hurts but that is a TE friendly system as we all know. Jimmy G isn’t an elite QB and Mullens has started for them in the past in that offense which is also QB friendly. They lost Mostert but Mostert was their 4th choice at RB after McKinnon, Coleman, and Breida who only got traded due to nagging injuries and less of a contract than the other two. They lost Nick Bosa but they’ve spent years drafting dline with their first round picks, Buckner, Armstead, Bosa, Thomas, Kinlaw. Yes Thomas got hurt and Armstead is gone but that’s a position they’ve over invested in.

Then factor in their playing the Giants who have a real lack of talent and have lost their most talented player in Barkley, yes the 49ers should overcome that easily.

I did not watch the game whatsoever and that appears to have been the right call by the sound and looks of things this team should fit a nicely 0-16 record LOL 😂 Sad times in Denver Broncos Country.

Elway has not done a good job building this team with adequate depth, and, despite the optimism around Lock, we truly don't know if we have a QB.

And Fangio is making poor game management decisions. That's not something that takes time to develop for a coach who's been in the league for as long as he has.

My patience with Elway has been wearing thin for several years now and I didn't like the hiring of Fangio to begin with.... and you all can see why.

Elway is due $30 million next year. He's not going anywhere.

And unless this season goes completely in the toilet (more so than it has already), my hunch is Elway will let Fangio ride out another year. I can't imagine Elway will want to go through ANOTHER head coaching hire in his final year.

I don’t think there’s anything to be said at all for a former legend being a gm , what were his qualifications as a modern player evaluator in the first place when he got the job , i’m not talking about you but its like people feel poorer or without an identity if that guy acquired in 83 isn’t here anymore , jeez its been a long time and so was 98 too , the only thing that matters is constant quality player evaluation and recruitment , if that gm proves to be a key ingredient in turning out consistent contending teams why should anyone give an ant’s rear end if he never played a down before .

It's obviously pointless if the legend doesn't achieve results. But it can help. For example, do you think we get to sign Manning in 2015 if not for Elway?

I don’t see what difference elway being gm would have made to manning’s decision to come to denver outside of maybe manning liked him as a person or maybe elway used his own hof status to lure manning into becoming a bronco , but even then manning may have asked himself what was elway’s credentials in being a gm in the first place so that seems something of a wash .

You might want to revisit the well documented record of Elway's effort to sign Peyton Manning after he was released from the Colts. It seemed that he thought it was his job to sign Manning in the event he was released, and he had a well thought out plan which he executed just as soon as the announcement was made in Indy. I think Pat Bowlen's plane was in the air a short time afterward. There was competition and Elway's efforts won out. Credit where credit is due is a good policy.

fair do's , i wasn't following football much then , how often do goat calibre qb's become available in free agency , thats essentially elway's piece de resistance in his time as gm here , 2012 is quite a long time ago and if he tried harder than anyone else it doesn't mean him being a hofer himself swayed manning to be a bronco , we could wait around for aaron rodgers next i don't know .
